Over the last two days, our volunteers have been busy carrying out controlled burning operations on Yunderup Island as part of ongoing fuel reduction and bushfire mitigation efforts - thanks to Mother Nature for giving us ideal weather conditions 🙏🔥

A huge thank you to the many residents who wandered over to say hello, have a chat and show their support. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with the community we’re proud to serve.

Special thanks also to the kind residents who generously allowed our ladies to use their bathrooms throughout the operation. Safe to say it was a much more comfortable option than squatting in the bush! 🤣🚻😜

Unfortunately Facebook won’t let us share photos and videos in the same post, but we’ve got plenty more to share from the burns, so keep an eye on our page over the coming week 🔥👨‍🚒

People think being part of a volunteer bush fire brigade is all about training, call outs and protecting the community…

And while that’s true…

Apparently it’s also about absolutely dominating quiz night at the Sandy Cove Tavern 🏆😂

The pressure was on.
The tension - intense.
Some team members handled it better than others (looking at you Steph 🤣).

After a nail-biting evening of random facts, educated guesses and a few answers we’re still not entirely convinced were correct - your local “Firies” somehow managed to take home the win!

In all seriousness though, nights like these are a great reminder that being part of a brigade is about more than what happens at the station or on the fireground.

Supporting local business, sharing a few laughs, building friendships and strengthening the relationships that make us a stronger team when it really matters - that’s all important too.

A huge thank you to the Sandy Cove Tavern and for hosting another fantastic quiz night.

We’ll be back to defend our title… assuming this wasn’t a complete fluke 😏🏆🚒

🚒 Thursday Night Training 🚒

A few snaps from last week’s training, where some our newest recruits joined alongside some of our most experienced volunteers.

Training is not just about learning how to fight fires. It’s about building confidence, strengthening teamwork, maintaining operational readiness and ensuring we can work safely and effectively together when our community needs us most.

While training is a vital part of the journey for new members, it’s equally important for experienced volunteers. Experience is invaluable, but ongoing training helps us refresh critical skills, share knowledge, stay current and continue to improve as a brigade.

The strongest teams aren’t built on experience alone - they’re built on people who continue to learn, train and grow together.

A huge thank you to everyone who gives up their Thursday evenings to invest in themselves, their teammates and the community we proudly serve.

The work starts long before the truck leaves the station 🔥🚒

WHAT A GREAT START! 🚒

One of the biggest highlights from our Community Open Day was the number of people who expressed interest in volunteering with our brigade.

Since the open day, we’ve had 6 potential new recruits in to Thursday night training to learn more about what being part of the South Yunderup Ravenswood Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade is all about.

If you missed our Open Day but would like to learn more, we’ve attached our updated Volunteer Information Sheet which outlines what’s involved in becoming a volunteer and what you can expect from brigade life.

⚠️ A quick note for those who attended our Open Day: Unfortunately, there was a small typo in the email address on the original information sheet that was handed out.

Please refer to the updated Volunteer Information Sheet attached to this post for the correct contact details.

If you’d like to attend a Thursday night training session, simply send us an email advising which training night you’d like to come along to.

This gives you the opportunity to meet the team, learn more about the brigade, ask questions and receive a formal application form.

We’d love the opportunity to meet you, show you around and answer any questions you may have.

Every volunteer starts with a single step through the station doors - and you might just find your new brigade family 🔥❤️

You may have spotted Macca the Fireboat looking a little different at our Open Day over the weekend… 👀🚤🔥

A massive shoutout and thank you to the team at Mandurah Canvas for the incredible work recently completed on fitting a brand new Bimini to Macca 🙏

This upgrade is such an important addition to Macca and will make a huge difference during operations on the water - providing much needed protection from the elements for our volunteers whilst out attending incidents, training and community events.

Not only are we incredibly grateful for the quality workmanship and professionalism from the team at Mandurah Canvas, but we also want to encourage our community to support local businesses that support local brigades and community organisations like ours 👏

We also extend our sincere thanks to Alcoa Australia / Alcoa Wagerup for the grant funding that made this upgrade possible.

Community support and partnerships like this genuinely help strengthen the capabilities of volunteer emergency services and allow us to continue protecting and serving our growing community.

Thank you again to both Mandurah Canvas and Alcoa for your support of all of us here at South Yunderup Ravenswood Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade 🚒🚤🔥

National Volunteer Week may officially be over… but there’s still time to get involved 🚒

The South Yunderup Ravenswood Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade is currently looking for volunteers to join our crew and help protect and serve our growing community.

At our Community Open Day, 17 of you took home a Volunteer Information Sheet and we were blown away by the interest and support shown by our community.

If you missed out on the day - don’t stress, there’s still an opportunity to come and see what we’re all about.

Before taking the next step, here are a few important things to know:

✅ A Police Clearance and Medical Declaration are required as part of the volunteer onboarding process

✅ Initial training is mandatory and includes online learning, brigade-based training and a practical 2-day course (usually held over a weekend)

✅ Ongoing Thursday night training and skill development are encouraged

✅ Emergency incidents and call outs can sometimes involve extended operational periods (12+ hours)

✅ Volunteering requires balance between brigade commitments, work and family life

✅ Being part of our brigade means contributing positively to a team culture built on respect, mateship, community and support

And remember - there are many ways to contribute to the brigade. Not every role is frontline firefighting; support roles are equally important and valued.

📍 Training Nights: Every Thursday from 5:30pm

YOUR NEXT STEP:

If this sounds like something you’d love to be part of, please send us an email in advance and let us know which Thursday training night you’d like to attend.

This gives you the opportunity to meet the team, learn more about the brigade, ask questions and receive a formal application form.

We’d love to meet you and welcome you into the brigade family ❤️🔥
