MALE TRAINEE RANGER – DUNGHUTTI ELDERS COUNCIL (ABORIGINAL CORPORATION) RNTBC
Full‑Time | Aboriginal Identified Position | Based on Dunghutti Country (Kempsey & Surrounds)
The Dunghutti Elders Council (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC is seeking a motivated Male Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicant to join the Dunghutti Gurrgiyn Gurrgiyn (Preying Mantis) Rangers as a Trainee Ranger.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Dunghutti man who is passionate about caring for Country, learning cultural land management skills, and building a long‑term career in environmental, cultural, and community work.
This traineeship provides hands‑on experience, accredited training, and the chance to work alongside experienced Rangers, cultural knowledge holders, and environmental specialists.
About the Role
As a Trainee Ranger, you will learn and support activities across Dunghutti Country, including:
• Cultural burning and cultural land management
• Caring for threatened species and sensitive habitats
• Bush regeneration and w**d control
• Quality water testing and monitoring of rivers, wetlands, and estuarine areas
• Supporting Waterwatch programs with local schools
• Monitoring Country using modern and cultural methods
• Protecting cultural heritage sites
• Supporting community events, school programs, and cultural activities
• Working with partner agencies (NPWS, Council, Crown Lands, RFS, etc.)
This role is designed to build your skills, confidence, and leadership as part of the growing Dunghutti Gurrgiyn Gurrgiyn Rangers Program.
What We’re Looking For
Applicants must:
• Be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, with a strong connection to Dunghutti Country
• Be willing to learn, listen, and work respectfully with Elders and knowledge holders
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Work well in a team and follow safety procedures
• Be reliable, motivated, and committed to completing training
• Hold (or be willing to obtain) a driver’s licence
No previous experience is required — just the right attitude, willingness to learn, and pride in caring for Country.
