It was great to meet and chat with so many potential future councillors at last night’s City of Clarence candidate information session.

We spoke about the nomination process, key dates, and a few helpful "do's and don'ts" about running an election campaign.

Sessions like this provide candidates with practical information to help them on their journey to becoming a councillor. Thanks to everyone who came along with thoughtful questions and genuine enthusiasm for serving their community.

The National Local Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Congress is the premier national gathering of local government specialists, experts and leaders responsible for the management of these critical community assets.

This year, the Congress will be held in Cairns on 25 and 26 August.

The program will focus on areas of priority concern to councils, including data innovations for heavy vehicle management, how driver behaviour can be influenced by infrastructure design, funding and sequencing for enabling infrastructure, accessible and inclusive design, and much more.

This year’s technical tour will provide an opportunity to visit the groundbreaking Gordonvale water security project.

Last week, our CCTV Program Manager, Wade Berry, headed to NSW to chat about our Regional Towns Community Safety Project.

At the 2026 Local Government Innovation Exchange, Wade walked through how LGAT rolled out upgraded CCTV across 23 council areas that now gives:

🎦 Councils real‑time visibility of their assets

👮 Tasmania Police access to 2,500+ extra video feeds to support public safety.

With every camera now installed, we’re shifting into our three‑year funded maintenance program to ensure the network remains reliable and effective.

Have Your Say on Tasmania’s Waste & Resource Recovery Strategy 2026–2031.

Tasmania is shaping its next Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, and right now the community has a real chance to influence what our state’s future looks like. This strategy will guide how we reduce waste, improve recycling, support a circular economy, and protect our environment over the next five years, but it can only work if it reflects the voices of the people who live here.

Your input matters because communities understand what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s missing. Whether you’re a household, a business, a farmer, a student, or a volunteer, your perspective helps shape practical, realistic actions.

With local government elections coming up this October, now is the time to think about how you can get involved.

If you care about your community, why not consider nominating to be a councillor?

As our CEO Dion Lester shared in The Advocate over the weekend, being a councillor is not only a chance to make a difference locally, it’s also an opportunity for personal growth. You can build skills in leadership, communication and strategic thinking along the way.

You might even discover strengths you never knew you had.
