πŸš¨πŸ”” Did you know that today is Smoke Alarm Action Day? πŸ””πŸš¨

Smoke Alarm Action Day is an annual nationwide day of action supported by emergency services across Australia, encouraging everyone to take a few moments to test their smoke alarms.

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm. A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones precious time to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

At Fire and Rescue NSW Station 307, we’re encouraging everyone in our community to take part today. Testing your smoke alarm only takes a few seconds, but it could save your life.

Need help or would like some fire safety advice? Book a FREE Home Fire Safety Visit at http://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/visits

βœ… Test your smoke alarms
βœ… Check the batteries
βœ… Make sure everyone knows your home escape plan

Stay safe, South Grafton!

πŸš’ Keeping our skills on point πŸš’

Each month, our crew runs multiple drills to keep our skills sharp and up to date for when the call comes in.

This training drill focused on the Remote Access Pack (Goat Pack) β€” equipment used when crews are called to incidents in areas with limited or difficult access where appliances can’t easily reach.

As you can see, the Goat Pack can be transported significant distances from our pump, ensuring water can be put on the hot stuff in almost any situation.

These packs are valuable for incidents such as bush and grass fires, apartment and high-rise buildings, rail corridor incidents, embankments, remote access rescues, and anywhere crews may need to carry equipment away from the truck.

Training like this ensures we’re prepared to respond safely and effectively, no matter the terrain or conditions. πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

πŸš’ Out and About in the Community πŸš’

Yesterday, some of our crew had the privilege of visiting Jacaranda Preschool, spending the morning with 29 legends learning all about fire safety.

We covered the important stuff:
πŸ“ž Who to call in an emergency
πŸ”₯ Get low and go, go, go in a fire
…and of course, the highlight β€” getting hands-on with the hose!

Plenty of smiles, a few future firefighters in the making, and some really important lessons shared.

πŸš’ Careers Day at TAFE πŸš’

Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 307 South Grafton and 306 Grafton recently attended a Careers Day at TAFE, giving students a closer look at life on the fireground.

Crews brought along one of our fire trucks and spent the day chatting with students about what it’s really like to be a firefighterβ€”covering everything from training and teamwork to the wide range of incidents we respond to.

It was a great opportunity to connect with the community, answer questions, and hopefully inspire the next generation to consider a career in fire and rescue.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to have a chatβ€”we loved sharing what we do! πŸš’

Interested in joining the crew? Keep an eye out for future recruitment opportunities or reach out to learn more.

πŸš’ Incident Response – House Fire πŸš’

Around 6:00am this morning, 307 responded to a working house fire.

On arrival, a two-storey home was well alight, with significant damage already evident. Thankfully, no one was home at the time.

Working alongside RFS crews, firefighters got straight to work, bringing the blaze under control and preventing further spread.

Strong teamwork. Quick action. Job done. πŸš’πŸ”₯

⚠️ Fire Safety Reminder:
As the weather cools down, the risk of house fires increases with heaters, electric blankets, and indoor cooking being used more often. Make sure you have working smoke alarms installed, test them regularly, keep anything flammable well clear of heaters, and always have an escape plan for your household.

Stay safe.
