𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Congratulations to State High student Vito Chuang who was selected to represent Metropolitan East at the Queensland Representative School Sport 10–12 Years Boys Basketball State Championships which took place from September 3 to September 6.

Earning a place in the Metropolitan East 10–12 Years Boys Basketball Team is a highly competitive and challenging achievement, requiring players to progress through multiple elite trial stages and compete against some of the top junior basketball players in the region.

Vito was the only student selected from Brisbane State High School to represent Metropolitan East — a fantastic achievement in itself. Even more impressively, the team went on to win the Championship!

Well done Vito - your hard work, dedication, talent and perseverance have truly paid off. We are incredibly proud to see you representing State High and achieving at such a high level.

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

A huge congratulations to Brisbane State High School student Kevin Chen, who proudly represented Queensland at the 12 & Under School Sport Australia Tennis National Championships, held in Brisbane from 23–28 August.

After a week of fierce competition against teams from seven other states and territories, the Queensland Team emerged national champions, proudly taking home the Bruce Cup! 🏆

And for Kevin, it’s back-to-back national titles! 🙌

In 2025, Kevin won the national title as a Year 6 student in Ballarat, Victoria. This year, he returned to the national stage and did it all over again — this time on home soil in Brisbane.

Affectionately known as “Big Kev” by his teammates, the nickname has little to do with his height and everything to do with the way he plays. Kevin has earned a reputation as a relentless competitor, battling for every point and refusing to give up.

What an incredible achievement, Kevin — well done!

𝗥𝗨 𝗢𝗞? 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹

Today our State High students embraced R U OK? Day with plenty of fun, laughter and, most importantly, kindness!

There was plenty of fun activities enjoyed today including:

🥧 Shaving cream pies thrown at our brave House Captains and some very good-sported teachers
🌱 Little seedlings being planted
💌 Thoughtful and compassionate notes being written
🍩Plenty of delicious donuts being enjoyed.

Even better, our pie throwing and donut sales helped raise money for the RU OK? Day Foundation, turning a day of fun into an opportunity to make a difference beyond our school community.

It was wonderful to see our students connecting, checking in with one another, spreading kindness and reminding us all that a simple “R U OK?” can mean so much.

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved — especially those who bravely faced the shaving cream!

R U OK? Because a conversation can make a difference.

Brisbane State High School is seeking expressions of interest for a Sports Coach (Head Coach First VIII) for our dynamic Rowing Program. This is to commence in Term 4 and will be for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

As a key member of the school support staff team, the position will support the delivery of an effective Rowing Program at Brisbane State High School. This role focuses on providing support to the Director of Rowing for both boys and girls activities and will ensure high-quality coaching is provided to students in the Rowing Program.

The Head Coach reports to the HR Business Manager for HR and administration purposes.

N.B. This position operates outside of standard business hours. Start times during the Rowing Season will be early in the morning and Regattas are generally held on Saturdays. Time in lieu will be negotiated in line with operational requirements.

Applicants are to submit a brief resume, including contact details for at least one (1) referee, and a 1-page written response outlining your suitability for the role as it pertains to the responsibilities and suitability assessment criteria above.

𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵 – 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀

Yesterday our Year 12 Prefects announced their 2027 successors. Afterwards, they continued a longstanding tradition of the post-announcement celebration. Held on I Block Rooftop, the outgoing Prefects prepared a surprise party for the 2027 Prefects which served as a special moment of connection and passing of the torch between the 2026 and 2027 Leaders.

Prefects at Brisbane State High School are Senior Student Leaders and as such exemplify and lead the positive behaviours expected of all students. The team is comprised of students with a genuine desire to be of service to the school and wider community.

While our current Prefects will continue to serve and lead until the end of the year, this moment marks the beginning of a new generation of student leadership at Brisbane State High School.

Congratulations to all of our newly appointed Student Leaders and thank-you to our 2026 Prefects for the leadership, dedication, and example you continue to set for our school community.
