After almost 20 years volunteering at Dodges Ferry Primary School - first as a parent and now a community rep - I still love lending a hand. How might you share some of your time and talents? There are all kinds of ways we can make a difference.

Wonderful to see these partnerships thriving again, passing on skills, wisdom and shared care for our special places.

The new signs add to many more across Dodges Ferry and the Southern Beaches - all created by volunteers in partnership with Sorell Council, Dodges Ferry Primary School and other organisations.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who give their time and talents so generously, making our community such a caring, connected place to live and to visit.

It’s a pleasure to do my bit - helping hand deliver chocolates to several groups, including many I’ve volunteered with over the years - and to volunteer in different ways each week.

Great work everyone. Happy National Volunteers Week!🌟

Condolences to Sue, Chris, Phil and families on John’s passing.

I first met John many years ago when he was an accountant and tax agent, then at Dodges Ferry Primary School where John & Sue were avid supporters of their grand children’s school community, as well as at many local history events for the Historical Society of Sorell Inc, grateful for John’s support for our first journals.

An example to us all, there’s no doubt he’ll be sadly missed.

Looking forward to understanding how public transport plays a part in active, healthy communities.

This quick survey is open through to 31 July, with a draw for five $100 gift cards on offer for participants.

Our research shows that being physically active plays an important role in preventing many chronic conditions and diseases. That’s why changes in how people use public transport are of interest to our preventative health and cardiovascular researchers.

From 30 March to 1 July 2026, the Tasmanian Government is offering free travel on buses and ferries across the state. Our researchers are seeking to better understand whether this free fares initiative has led Tasmanians to use public transport more, and how this may be impacting physical activity.

You can support our research by completing our quick 10‑minute survey, open until midnight on 31 July 2026. Participants can also choose to enter a draw to win one of five $100 gift cards.
