Sorell Council is inviting community members to apply to join the Natural Resource Management Advisory Group (NRMAG).

The NRMAG brings together local knowledge, experience and perspectives to provide advice to Council on natural resource management and support the implementation of Council’s Natural Resource Management Strategy.

The Local Government Association of Tasmania represents all 29 councils, providing leadership support to candidates and councillors.

When I was first elected in 2018 there were 9 candidates for 9 positions, then in 2022 there was a field of 19 candidates.

This time most councils have reduced to 7 positions and I’m looking forward to another healthy mix of experienced and new candidates.

I’m happy to support candidates with a genuine commitment to the public good.

Even with the delays it’s great to see work underway on these important footpaths.

Linking up the Carlton Beach Rd footpath from East St to Raprinner St has been a long term project, with funding secured in the 2025-26 budget and then rolled over to this year.

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹 – 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲

We recognise the Carlton River Road Footpath Renewal has taken much longer than anticipated, and we understand the community’s frustration with the works remaining unfinished for an extended period. We apologise for the inconvenience this delay has caused.

Unfortunately, circumstances affecting the original construction contract meant the works were unable to continue as planned.

Council has been working through the necessary steps to move the project forward and is now progressing the process of engaging a replacement contractor to complete the remaining works.

The same contractor was also due to undertake the Carlton Beach Road footpath works between East Street and Raprinner Street. This project will now need to be re-tendered and will be advertised in the coming weeks.

Council also has plans to continue the footpath along Carlton Beach Road and Provence Drive, from Snake Hollow Park through to the Gate Five path.

It is intended that works on both sections will commence later this year, subject to the tender process and contractor availability.

We understand the community is keen to see these important footpath projects completed, and so are we. We will continue to provide updates as contractors are appointed and timeframes are confirmed.

The proposed improvements include:
- overtaking lanes at Dunalley, Taranna and Forcett
- intersection upgrades at Forcett and Eaglehawk Neck
- improved pedestrian access in Dunalley.
