You may remember seeing a post late last year about proposed viewing platforms for Park Beach and Carlton Beach.

Since then, work has been continuing behind the scenes, and we’re now pleased to be able to share the viewing platform designs for the project.

With funding support from the Department of State Growth, Sorell Council will deliver new viewing platforms at both locations, helping to improve opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy our beautiful coastline.

The designs have been developed with the coastal environment in mind, using durable, low-maintenance materials including stainless steel framing and non-slip grating, chosen for their strength and suitability in coastal conditions.

A CoastSnap monitoring point will be installed at Carlton Beach, to capture and track movement of the sand over time at the river entrance.

We know there’s been some community interest around parking and access, however this wasn’t included in the scope of the funding for this project. That feedback has been noted and will be considered in future infrastructure planning.

The plans are available to view on our website, along with examples of similar viewing platforms that helped inform the design approach.

🌱 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 🌱

We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response to our Backyard Biodiversity Program!

Thanks to the enthusiasm of our community, we’ve supported the distribution of thousands of vouchers for native seedlings, helping to create more wildlife-friendly gardens and boost biodiversity across the municipality.

Due to the program’s popularity, all available voucher allocations have now been exhausted and the program has closed today, 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟴 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

If you’ve already received a voucher that has not yet been redeemed at Wildseed, it remains valid and can still be used. However, no further voucher allocations will be available this year.

We look forward to seeing these native plants thrive in backyards throughout our community and thank everyone who has supported the Backyard Biodiversity Program.

🌿 Share a photo of your new plants in the comments – we’d love to see them growing!

𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲

Our collection contractors are always on the lookout for hazardous waste when servicing kerbside bins to help keep both workers and the community safe.

Last week, we were extremely grateful that a driver identified a gas bottle before the bin was emptied. The cylinder was full and, if compacted inside the collection vehicle, could have caused a significant incident resulting in serious injury or even death to the driver and others nearby.

Alarmingly, this was one of two hazardous waste incidents identified in our municipality last week alone.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Councils and waste contractors across Australia are seeing an increasing number of hazardous items being placed in general waste bins, which increased the risk of fire or explosion.

Thank you for helping keep our drivers, and community safe.
