As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer — past and present — and to everyone who supports what we do. 🙌❤️

Our brigade is built on people willing to give their time, skills , and commitment to help others. From training nights and callouts to community events and everything in between, every contribution helps make a difference. 🌟

This week we’ve celebrated our volunteers, but today we want to say a huge thank you to the families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, partners ❤️, employers 🤝, friends 😊 and supporters who stand beside them every step of the way.

Thank you for the missed dinners 🍽️, late-night callouts 🚨, time shared with the community, and the constant encouragement, patience, and understanding you give ❤️👏

Your support helps our volunteers continue doing what they do and makes a bigger difference than you may realise 🌟

Meet Aleks 🚒

How long they’ve volunteered ?
15 years, originally joining at Bridgewater Fire Brigade before transferring to Sorell when he moved into the area.

Why they joined ?
To do something outside of his day-to-day work while also giving back to the community ❤️

Favourite part of being in the brigade ?
Being surrounded by a fantastic group of members who feel like a second family 🤝👨‍🚒

Meet Sarah 👩‍🚒🚒

How long have you volunteered?
4 years - I joined in April 2022 as part of the brand new Sorell Emergency Services Hub recruitment drive and undertook 12 months of training prior to our station officially opening in March 2023.

Why did you join?
I joined because I wanted to try something new, give back to my community, and meet new people. I didn’t really have a hobby at the time, and something I thought would simply be just a hobby has now become a true passion.

Favourite part of being in the brigade?
My favourite part is that it’s become my second family — like having many brothers and sisters. We are more than just a brigade. These are people I look up to, people I learn from, and it’s something I’ve never experienced before. I couldn’t imagine being on this journey with anyone else ❤️🚒

Meet Gary 🚒❤️

How long have you volunteered?
Gary started his training at Cambridge in June 2022 alongside around 20 other new members before moving to the newly opened Sorell Fire Brigade in March 2023. 🚒

Why did you join?
He joined as a volunteer to help fill his time in retirement while also giving back and supporting the community in their time of need. Helping others and being there when people need assistance most has become a rewarding part of his journey ❤️🤝

When asked what he enjoys most about being a volunteer firefighter, Gary said:

“The best thing about being a volunteer firefighter is the camaraderie with the other members, especially the younger crew. They help keep me feeling young and valued, and being part of such a supportive team makes volunteering even more rewarding.” ❤️🔥🚒

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week 🎉 a time to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy, and hearts to support others and strengthen our community 🏡❤️

Behind every callout 🚨, training night 📚🚒, and community event are volunteers who quietly show up, give their all, and make a difference every single day 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒🤝

Over the next week, we’ll be celebrating the people behind Sorell Fire Brigade — the dedication 💪, teamwork ❤️, and commitment that makes our brigade what it is.

🚨Information below from Sorell Council regarding an upcoming burn off in the Seven Mile Beach area 🔥⬇️

𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 - 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗡 🔥

Sorell Council has been advised of a planned and approved burn being undertaken by external fire management contractors at 300 Pittwater Road, Seven Mile Beach, which may affect residents in the Carlton, Lewisham and Dodges Ferry areas.

Scheduled details:
📅 Date: Sunday 10 May 2026
🕚 Commencing: 11.00pm
📍 Location: 300 Pittwater Road, Seven Mile Beach
💨 Potential impact: Smoke and smoke odour may be noticeable in surrounding areas depending on weather and wind conditions

Please note:
⚠️ This burn is not being conducted by Sorell Council
🌦️ The burn is weather dependent and may be cancelled if conditions are unsuitable
📅 Additional burning may also occur on Tuesday 12 May, subject to confirmation by the contractor

This notice is being shared for community awareness only. If smoke is observed during the scheduled burn period, there is no cause for alarm.

💐 Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing mums out there 💐

Whether you’re a mum, step mum, nan, mum-to-be, foster mum, fur mum 🐾 or someone who takes on a motherly role in another way — today is for you 💖

To the mums of the Sorell Fire Brigade 🚒❤️ thank you for giving up your time away from family to serve and support our community👩‍🚒.

And to the wives, partners, families, and loved ones behind our members 💕 thank you for holding the fort at home 🏡 while we do what we do.

Today and every day, we recognise, appreciate, and thank you for everything you do 🌸❤️👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

We also pause to remember those mums and motherly figures who are no longer with us 🤍🕊️

🚒❤️ Today is St Florian’s Day — also known as International Firefighters’ Day ❤️🚒

Today, members of Sorell Fire Brigade join communities around the world in recognising and thanking firefighters past and present for their bravery, dedication and commitment to protecting lives, property and community. 👨‍🚒🔥

We also pause to remember and honour those firefighters who have sadly lost their lives in service to others. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. ❤️

To all firefighters and emergency service personnel. Thank you for everything you do, often in the most challenging of circumstances.

Stay safe today and always. 🚒🙏
