Happy Father's Day from all of us at Sorell Fire Brigade! ๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

Today we celebrate all the dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father figures ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ who support, guide and inspire us every day. ๐Ÿ’™

We also remember those who are no longer with us, but are never forgotten. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ โค๏ธ

We extend a special thank you to the dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father figures within our brigade ๐Ÿš’ and the families who support our volunteers while they serve the community. Your dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe is truly appreciated. ๐Ÿ‘ โค๏ธ

And because it's Father's Day, here's a classic dad joke:

J: Why did the firefighter bring a ladder to work? ๐Ÿชœ๐Ÿš’
A: Because they wanted to take their career to the next level! ๐Ÿ˜„

We hope you all enjoy a safe, relaxing and memorable fatherโ€™s day with your loved ones. โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Yes, we're a little biased ๐Ÿ˜‰... but we think they're pretty amazing!

A fantastic morning had by our crew at Discovery Early Learning Centres Sorell! ๐Ÿš’ Thanks to all the children and educators for the warm welcome and great questions. We had an absolute blast! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ A Very Special Visit from the Sorell Fire Brigade! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Today our Spring and Shipstern children were very excited to welcome Firefighters Aleks, Jarrod and Luke from the Sorell Fire Brigade, who kindly volunteered their time to provide our children with a fun and educational experience.

In small groups, the children had the opportunity to get up close to the fire truck, explore firefighting clothing and learn about some of the equipment firefighters use in their everyday roles. The children were able to look at, touch and learn about handheld radios, fire hydrants, hoses, nozzles, lighting and a fire extinguisher.

There was certainly lots of excitement when everyone had the opportunity to hold the fire hose! The children were also encouraged to ask questions and finished their visit with a special take-home show bag of goodies.

Firefighter Aleks asked the children, โ€œDo you know what we do?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re from the fire station. I saw the fire truck when I was at my friendโ€™s house.โ€

โ€œYou put out fires.โ€

โ€œFirefighters help us.โ€

When asked what they would do if they saw smoke or fire at their house, the children shared their developing understanding of fire safety:

โ€œTell your Mummy and Daddy and they can ring the fire truck.โ€

The children were particularly fascinated to learn about fire hydrants and how firefighters can access additional water when they need more than what is available in the fire truck.

One very surprised little voice responded, โ€œWhat! There is water in the ground?โ€

Experiences like this are not only fun and educational; they also highlight the strong community connections we value here at Discovery Sorell. Connecting with local emergency services provides children with opportunities to learn about the important roles people have within our community and how firefighters help to keep us safe.

Our connection with the Sorell Fire Brigade will also continue beyond todayโ€™s visit. The firefighters have offered to use one of their upcoming training nights to tour our service and familiarise themselves with our building, exits and fire safety equipment should we ever need their assistance in an emergency.

A huge THANK YOU to Firefighters Aleks, Jarrod and Luke and the Sorell Fire Brigade for giving their time and creating such a memorable learning experience for our children.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ Back to the Classroom ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

On Tuesday night, brigade members headed back to the classroom to refresh their skills in the treatment and management of burns during a training session facilitated by Kev, a retired paramedic and fellow volunteer firefighter. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’

As firefighters, there is always a risk of sustaining burns while performing our duties. However, burns can happen to anyone and may result from house fires ๐Ÿ , motor vehicle accidents ๐Ÿš—, explosions ๐Ÿ’ฅ , hot liquids โ˜•๏ธ, chemicals ๐Ÿงช, steam โ™จ๏ธ and electricityโšก.

Knowing how to recognise and treat burns quickly can make a real difference while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. ๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿš‘

A big thank you to Kev for sharing his knowledge and helping keep our brigade prepared, informed, and ready to support our community. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿšจ Reminder AusAlert Test Today! Monday 27th July ๐Ÿšจ

AusAlert is Australiaโ€™s new emergency messaging system. It helps people stay informed and prepared during local and national disasters.

An AusAlert national test alert will be sent to compatible mobile devices across Australia on Monday 27 July 2026, at around 2:00 pm AEST.

During the test, all compatible mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, will be sent a Critical Alert, vibrate and make a siren-like sound.

If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at https://www.ausalert.gov.au/receiving-an-alert to find out how to turn a Critical Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you donโ€™t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

About our Saturday! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿงก

Today, the Sorell Group Brigades and Sorell SES held their first Field Day! โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก

The day consisted of 10 activities across the Sorell area, focused on ๐Ÿค teamwork, communication, task completion, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) ๐Ÿฆบ.

Ten crews from around the Primrose Sands, Dodges Ferry, Sorell, and Tasman areas joined us for the day, navigating between activity stations and putting their skills, knowledge, and teamwork to the test. ๐Ÿš’

A huge thank you to our Group Officer Adam, and the wonderful committee for their hard work in organising and running the day. Your dedication made the event possible. ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŽ‰ The day was a great success, with plenty of learning, teamwork, and fun had by all.

โœ… Well done to everyone who participated ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’
