From "Shepparton Sketchbook" by Colechin and Ayers (1980):

"It is a beautiful home, built with hand-made bricks about 1898 and called Wanganui Homestead. The precision and craftsmanship that went into the construction of the house are also evident in the stables, which were built at the same time and of the same materials, indicating that Mr Orr took great pride in the large number of horses that he and his family owned. He ran a highly successful mixed farm and was one of the first in the Shepparton area to make use of irrigation channels to supply water to his property. In recognition of this, an irrigation settlement east of Shepparton was named Orrvale after William Orr. Later he was active in politics and was elected as the local representative for the Upper House in the Victorian State Parliament." ~JM

The following is the text from the attached article. ~GA
Heritage obstacles may stand in the way of the Bonlac company's plans to demolish the 60-year-old former factory site fronting Wyndham St, Shepparton.
Bonlac has applied to the City of Greater Shepparton for a permit to demolish all the buildings on the site except for the newer offices temporarily occupied by the police station.
Bonlac has been trying to sell the disused factory and old offices which occupy most of the block bounded by Vaughan, Welsford, Sobraon and Wyndham Sts.
The city believes the "Shepparton Co-operative Butter Factory" facade fronting Wyndham St was built in the 1930s.
Heritage Victoria said it expects the council to refuse a request for the total demolition or removal of the building.
The city is waiting for a reply from the National Trust. One objection was made to the council by a resident when the objection period closed last Friday.
The objection was concerned about the historical value of the building considering the importance of the dairy industry to the area.
Senior planning officer with the city, Peter Dutton, said under the new planning scheme, the eastern facade is listed as a heritage item.
"The style of the building is a good example of the older dairies in other country Victorian towns."
He said it had been well maintained and the nature of the building represented the growth of the dairy industry in Shepparton.
Mr Dutton said the National Trust had identified the building as being of significance at a local level.
He expected to hear from the National Trust by the end of next week. The application would be referred to the council for a final decision.
The original co-operative was established in 1894 and the centenary was acknowledged with a plaque on a stone at the front of the property.

"There is no gainsaying the fact that Mr J. WEIDENBACH has made great strides since commencing business some three years ago at Shepparton. This business can very properly be styled "the Leading Cash Emporium" of the town. One really good thing Mr. Weidenbach did was to introduce cash sales and give the customer the benefit as well as himself. The Drapery, Clothing, and Mercery Store under review is still going ahead, and shortly a large, handsome building now in course of er****on will be taken over by Mr Weidenbach, who will manage one branch, and Mrs Weidenbach, who is a very experienced and clever business woman, the other. A great specialty is made of millinery at the Cash Emporium, and a visit of inspection—if you've never been there—will please you, also repay. Dressmaking is carried out extensively, and a neat, well-fitting costume can be relied upon. In the Millinery Department there will also be found a fine range of Ladies' Underclothing, Costumes, etc. There is a moral to this article—buy for cash, buy the best."
