LONGWOOD FIRE RECOVERY UPDATE

Stabilisation works are continuing, with management transitioning to the local CFA district from the 1st June.

90% of work has been completed for the ~860kms of identified control lines.

We are working with contractors to complete the remaining works. These contractors are operating under the direction and management of CFA.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this ongoing effort.

🔥 PLANNED BURN NOTIFICATION 🔥

If weather and forecast conditions are suitable, firefighters from CFA District 12 will ignite the Tallarook Reserve planned burn tomorrow - Saturday 16th May at approximately 11am onwards.

The burn is being undertaken to reduce risk of bushfire to provide the highest level of localised protection to human life, property and community assets identified as highly valued.

The burn will take place over one day.

CFA crews will continue to patrol and monitor in the days following.

Without planned burning and other fuel management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.

🔥You may see or smell smoke.

👀Watch for our crews and follow their directions.

ℹIf you experience symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, please seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.

Detailed information about current air quality throughout Victoria can be found at www.epa.vic.gov.au

Unexpected weather conditions can mean plans change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if communities have already been notified.

When this happens, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and re-schedule the burn for a later date.

The Kinross Farm / Kinglake West Planned burn is now complete.

Smoke may be visible and crews will continue to patrol over the coming days.

This operation was the highest priority in the state. We have attempted to get this done over the last few years, but the conditions simply didn't line up. This year, conditions were perfect, and extreme care was taken while the burn was safely conducted.

Kinross Farm is a highly important asset to the State of Victoria. While this burn is essential to help protect the farm, it will also play a crucial role in protecting the communities of Kinglake West and Flowerdale, as well as the nearby pine plantations.

A huge thank you and a job well done to all the crews involved. A special shoutout to the FFMV crews who were amazing to work with once more. We truly do work as one! 🤝🚒🌳

The Kinross Farm planned burn in Kinglake West has just been ignited. Please see our previous post for more details.
