Last night the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale hosted the SJ 2026 Emergency Services Awards evening, honouring the outstanding contributions of the State Emergency Service (SES) and Bush Fire Brigades within the Shire.

A multitude of awards were presented across both the SES and Shire brigades, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all recipients, proudly acknowledging the selfless dedication of our volunteer personnel.

We are excited to announce that seven members of the Serpentine Brigade received awards, including recognition for years of service, the Captain's Award, the National Service Medal, and an exceptional 55 years of service award presented to Ray Elliott.

It is essential to acknowledge that the value of our volunteers lies not solely in the awards they receive, but in the exceptional calibre of skills and unwavering commitment they bring to their roles, rendering every volunteer invaluable, respected, and appreciated.

Well done to all for their tireless efforts during the last fire season, ensuring the safety of our community and others, often at personal risk and family time missed.

We express our deepest appreciation for your dedication and are proud to recognise you as an integral part of our volunteer family.
Congratulations to all award recipients from the SES and SJ Brigades.

Restricted Burn Period starts tomorrow 1.4.2026
Just to be clear - this is not an April Fools joke 😅

🔥 Restricted Burn Period – Starts Tomorrow 🔥

Please be advised that the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale will be entering the Restricted Burn Period from tomorrow, Wednesday 1 April through to 31 May 2026.

🚫 No private or running burn permits will be issued during this time. Any requests to burn must be submitted to the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer for consideration.

✅ Small garden pile burns (maximum 1 cubic metre) may still be carried out without a permit, provided all of the following conditions are met:
• Fires may only be lit between 6.00pm and 11.00pm
• Fires must be fully extinguished by midnight
• One pile only at a time
• Maintain 5 metres clearance from flammable material
• One person must always supervise the fire until fully extinguished
• The burn must be registered with DFES prior to lighting

🚭 Burning is not permitted:
• On Sundays or Public Holidays
• When the Fire Danger Rating is High or above
• If it creates toxic or nuisance smoke

🌡️ With April forecast to remain warmer than usual and low rainfall expected, these restrictions are in place to help reduce the risk of bushfire.

➡️ Conditions will be regularly reviewed, and restrictions may change if it becomes safe to issue permits.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe. 💛

For more information about when you can burn, please visit our website >> https://tinyurl.com/3vfppens

Alternatively, you may contact your local Fire Control Officer or contact the Shire on (08) 9526 1111.

National Thank a Firefighter Day - 28th February.
Thank you to all Firefighters everywhere for their dedication to keeping the community safe 🚒🔥🚒

Your support means more to our firies than you realise 🥹🔥

Today, on Thank a Firey Day, show some love to the legends who run towards danger to keep our loved ones safe 💙

In the past year alone, our career and volunteer firefighters have responded to over 5,700 bushfires, 3,300 road crash rescues, 1,400 structure fires and countless other emergencies across the State, but the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Behind every call-out are hundreds of hours of training, missed family moments and relentless sacrifices, the early starts and quiet acts that often go unseen, like comforting someone on their worst day, teaching kids about fire safety, helping families who’ve lost everything or checking in on a mate doing it tough.

It takes courage, dedication and heart to do this job. It’s a tough gig and they do it to protect their community – time and time again.
