IRWIN Leeza Kangaroo Island Council Candidate
For those of you who are voting for the new council, I would like to give you a better understand of who I am and what I stand for.
Born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1960.
I have been happily married for 38 years to my amazing husband David Irwin.
I am a proud grandmother and mother of 2 beautiful daughters.
I strive to be a hardworking, honest, caring and active person in my community.
I have lived on Kangaroo Island for 11 years, with my husband Dave. Together we own and manage our business. People tell me my sound business expertise has made Raptor Domain, located at Seal Bay Kangaroo Island, an internationally acclaimed Environmental Education and Rehabilitation Centre.
I have been a board member of Tourism Kangaroo Island for the past 4 years and am an idea’s person and a forward thinker.
I am a defender of the environment and for the past 5 years I have been proactive, standing against oil and gas developments in the Great Australian Bight.
(We need to care for and preserve the environment that our children will inherit.)
I feel strongly about buying local, and through our business we are active supporters of community organisations and committees.
I believe in transparency and if elected I will endeavour to always be approachable and honest.
I have mentioned a few things below that I will be supporting and aiming for:
• Rates and waste to be reasonable and acceptable by rate payers.
• More federal and state government funding and assistance for road’s and infrastructure.
• Sustainable growth and jobs for the island.
• No support of 1080 until it can be proven to be used in a humane, effective, cost efficient and non-threatening to other species manner.
• I strongly support responsible cat ownership, the eradication of feral cats and a sustainable increase of our native species.
• Youth Health and Education. Our youth are our future, we need to nurture and support them as much as possible. We need to provide security, support, recreation and Jobs and a reason to want to stay on KI to support and contribute to the economy.
My passion for the Island, its people and way of life is unconditional and I am now looking to become more involved in the Islands’ future growth, opportunities and challenges.
If you want someone like me in council please give me the chance to prove myself worthy. Vote No 1, Leeza Irwin.
