Passionate about your community and ready to make a difference?

Local government elections are happening this October across all 29 Tasmanian councils.

If you’re considering nominating for councillor, mayor or deputy mayor, now is the perfect time to learn what’s involved.

The Local Government Association of Tasmania has released a Candidate Handbook covering eligibility, the nomination process and campaigning. It’s a great place to start.

Download it from the LGAT website: https://www.lgat.tas.gov.au/council-elections

2026 Cracker Night 🎆

Several Cracker Night fireworks displays are planned across Dorset tomorrow evening, on both public and private properties.

To view all approved displays, visit the WorkSafe Tasmania website and scroll to the listings for the North of the state: 🔗 https://bit.ly/4dYtuul

Please note that Council does not regulate fireworks events - this is managed by WorkSafe Tasmania. Any community complaints can be directed to: [email protected]

Fireworks can be distressing for pets, especially dogs. Please ensure your pets are safely secured, kept indoors where possible, and have access to a calm, familiar space during the displays.

Let’s work together to keep our furry friends safe and stress-free while everyone enjoys the night. 🐶💙

Tomorrow is National Walk Safely to School Day

So be extra mindful when travelling around school zones on Friday as there may be extra foot traffic, with children, adults, community members and teachers taking part.

This initiative aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking can provide for the long term well-being of children.
