Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Inc. Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade A brigade as an entity lives and dies on the strength of its membership.

New Members Always Welcome
Ask anyone in a volunteer fire brigade what they struggle to obtain the most and the answer will always be "new members". Without fire fighters to man them, appliances are useless and without administration officers a brigade cannot be run day to day. Regardless of the amount of time you can commit to a brigade, your availability to attend fires or your age, gender or ph

ysical ability, if you volunteer to join a fire brigade you will always be both welcomed and needed. Becoming involved with your local volunteer bush fire brigade is a challenging and rewarding experience. Fighting fires requires skills and experience which you are unlikely to have needed before or know that you possess. Joining
Joining your local fire brigade is as easy as contacting a brigade officer. Sawyers Valley brigade can be contacted here or you may phone the Captain on 0417 970 895. If you would like to look around the brigade, its equipment and station or meet other members, the station is manned every Saturday morning from 9:30am. Sawyers Valley Bush Fire Station is located at 12 Ashstead Street Sawyers Valley. See the Contact Information page for more details on getting in touch with an officer of Sawyers Valley brigade. A great example of teamwork on the Beechina fire this week, with strong coordination between crews on the ground and aerial support above.
Helitack crews played a vital role, delivering targeted water drops that helped slow the spread of the fire and support firefighters working the containment lines below. The combination of air support and the hard work of local and assisting brigades on the ground made a real difference in bringing the fire under control.
Incidents like this highlight how important that partnership is โ€” aircraft and helitack crews working hand-in-hand with volunteer firefighters to protect our community and bushland. ๐Ÿš๐Ÿš’

A big few days for crews across the hills after the fire in Beechina that started on Wednesday afternoon, burning around 70 hectares before being successfully downgraded.
Itโ€™s a timely reminder not to be fooled by mild conditions โ€” the bush is still very dry, and with a bit of wind fires can start and spread quickly.
A huge thank you to , all the Shire of Mundaring brigades, the brigades from outside the Shire who came to assist, along with DBCA. And a special thanks to the Salvos for keeping our firefighters fuelled with food while they worked hard on the fireground.
Weโ€™re grateful for the incredible teamwork shown across agencies and brigades.

A huge thank you to our reliable members who put their hands up on the weekend to help out โ€” your commitment and teamwork make a real difference to the community. ๐Ÿš’

A busy week for , with our crew proud to assist at the Bullsbrook fire. Huge thanks to everyone involved across all agencies for the teamwork and professionalism on the ground.
Special mention to Shane, Denise and John โ€” three of our most dedicated members โ€” putting in the hard work and still managing to do it with a smile. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today we pause to remember the Wooroloo bushfire and the profound impact it had on our community five years ago.

The fire destroyed homes and disrupted lives, leaving a lasting mark on so many families. We hold in our thoughts everyone who experienced loss, and those for whom recovery has been a long and deeply personal journey.

The bushfire began on 1 February 2021 and tore through the Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan, affecting Wooroloo, Tilden Park, Gidgegannup and surrounding areas.

More than 10,500 hectares of bushland were burned, resulting in significant loss of habitat and environmental destruction across the Perth Hills.

We acknowledge the incredible efforts of everyone who worked tirelessly to bring the flames under controlโ€”volunteers, emergency services, neighbours, and community members who stood together so others could begin again.

This anniversary invites us to reflect on what was lost, to honour the strength shown in the face of devastation, and to continue supporting one another along the long road of recovery.

It also reinforces our commitment to advocating for stronger planning requirements in bushfireโ€‘prone areas, ensuring safer evacuation and better protections for residents and our natural environment.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, today and always.
