Today we pause to remember the Wooroloo bushfire and the profound impact it had on our community five years ago.
The fire destroyed homes and disrupted lives, leaving a lasting mark on so many families. We hold in our thoughts everyone who experienced loss, and those for whom recovery has been a long and deeply personal journey.
The bushfire began on 1 February 2021 and tore through the Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan, affecting Wooroloo, Tilden Park, Gidgegannup and surrounding areas.
More than 10,500 hectares of bushland were burned, resulting in significant loss of habitat and environmental destruction across the Perth Hills.
We acknowledge the incredible efforts of everyone who worked tirelessly to bring the flames under controlโvolunteers, emergency services, neighbours, and community members who stood together so others could begin again.
This anniversary invites us to reflect on what was lost, to honour the strength shown in the face of devastation, and to continue supporting one another along the long road of recovery.
It also reinforces our commitment to advocating for stronger planning requirements in bushfireโprone areas, ensuring safer evacuation and better protections for residents and our natural environment.
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, today and always.
Thank you
