Our area will be under a High Fire Danger Rating Today the 25th of October.

🟢MODERATE FIRE DANGER 🟢

From today the 20th of October our area will be under a Moderate Fire Danger Rating. Fire Permits are required and can be applied for through the following website.

• Conditions are relatively mild, but fires can still start.
• Most fires that do occur can be controlled, but you should not be complacent.

• Stay informed and be ready to act if conditions change.

September was a busy month for the Williamtown / Salt Ash Brigade, attending multiple fires across the area, from Abundance Road in Medowie, to Westrac at Tomago, a pile burn on Cabbage Tree Road, and the Masonite Road fire, where crews worked tirelessly to help contain and suppress the fire.

With the start of the statutory fire season being the 1st of October, these incidents are a timely reminder to make sure you and your family are prepared, because one ember can end it.

FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

The Statutory Bush Fire Danger Period is now in effect. Fire permits are now required in our area until the 31st of March 2027.

What you need to know:
- You are required to give at least 24hrs notice to your neighbours and the NSW RFS before lighting your burn.

- The permit holder must be present and have the permit on their person at the fire until it is fully extinguished.

- Permit holders must follow all the conditions outlined in the permit, keeping in mind permits may be varied, suspended or cancelled depending on conditions, and are automatically suspended on high fire risk and Total Fire Ban days.

October 1st marks the start of the Statutory Bush Fire Danger Period, which is in effect until 31 March 2027.
During this time, a Fire Permit is required for any burning activities undertaken outdoors. Before lighting, you must also notify your neighbours and the Rural Fire Service at least 24 hours prior to your burn.
