🚒 10 Years of Service – Congratulations Sam!

Tonight at our weekly drill, Duty Commander Travis had the honour of presenting Firefighter Sam with his 10‑Year Service and Good Conduct Medal.

Ten years of late‑night callouts, early starts, and the occasional “quick job” that definitely wasn’t quick, and through it all, Sam’s been steady, reliable, and somehow always managing to have a coffee in hand. We’re still not sure if he brews it at home or has a secret stash hidden on the truck.

A decade of commitment, professionalism, and calm under pressure is no small achievement. Sam has been a constant presence on the truck and in our station family, always ready to step up, lend a hand, and bring a bit of calm to the chaos.

Well done, Sam, here’s to ten years of service, good humour, and caffeine‑powered reliability.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with him.

Well done, Sam — here’s to the next chapter of service.

🚒📞 Fire Call - Truck Rollover 📞🚒

About 9:15am on Monday the 25th May 2026, crews from Rutherford, Braxton, Singleton and Abermain Fire Stations responded to a truck rollover on the Golden Highway near Range Road.

Firefighters arrived to a significant cleanup operation, working to make the scene safe and restore the roadway.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

A strong, coordinated effort by all crews involved, and let’s just say the morning fitness session was well and truly covered.

đźš’ Farewell & Congratulations to Our Crew

This month, we say goodbye to a number of our firefighters who have hung up the helmet, handed in the pager, and finally discovered what a full night’s sleep feels like.

Please join us in thanking:

👨‍🚒 Deputy Captain Grant
👨‍🚒 Senior Firefighter Sam
👨‍🚒 Senior Firefighter Rick
👨‍🚒 Senior Firefighter Kyle

With a combined service of over 80years, countless callouts, and more station banter than any human should reasonably endure, these four legends have officially retired from Fire & Rescue NSW. Their experience, leadership, and ability to find the missing piece of equipment every single time will be missed.

We wish them quieter days, slower mornings, and the joy of never again hearing the words “You’re on the truck tonight.”

And a special shout‑out to:

🔥 Firefighter Isaac
Isaac has been offered a role as a permanent firefighter, proof that hard work, dedication, and surviving Rutherford’s sense of humour really does pay off. We’re incredibly proud and can’t wait to see him continue to grow in the job.

To Grant, Sam, Rick, Kyle, and Isaac, thank you for your service, your commitment to the community, and the memories (good, questionable, and downright hilarious).

Once a part of the Rutherford 455 family, always a part of the Rutherford 455 family.

Stay safe, stay in touch, and don’t forget where the kettle is.

Please join us in wishing the team all their success!

🔥 Rutherford Fire Station Open Day — Officially Extinguished! 🔥

That’s a wrap, folks! A massive thank you to everyone who dropped in yesterday — from the kids who tested every siren button they could reach, to the parents who pretended they weren’t enjoying climbing through the truck more than their kids.

Our crew had a blast showing you the gear, the demos, and proving once again that firefighters can talk about smoke alarms for longer than most people talk about their hobbies.

Special shout‑out to:

• The bloke who had to yell out during our demonstration — honestly mate, the timing was impeccable.

• The junior firefighter who asked if the truck has a “turbo mode” — we’re still working on it.

• Everyone who took home safety tips… and didn’t accidentally take home our gear.

We estimate over 2000 people come through the doors, absolutely fantastic!

🚒 Rutherford Fire Station – HAZMAT Capability Exercise

Today our crew travelled to the Fire + Rescue Emergency Services Academy in Sydney to take part in a multi‑agency HAZMAT capability exercise alongside our partner emergency services.

The scenario put firefighters through a range of hazardous and challenging environments, testing how we identify risks, manage dangerous substances, and work together during a complex simulated incident.

Exercises like this are invaluable — great exposure for our team, a chance to sharpen our skills, and an opportunity to build strong connections with crews from across the state.

Always learning, always improving, and always prepared for anything!

Today, we came together as a community to honour and remember the men and women who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment.

ANZAC Day is a time to reflect on the legacy they have left behind, and to ensure their stories and values continue to be carried forward by future generations.

Rutherford Fire and Rescue 455 was proud to stand alongside our colleagues from Maitland Fire and Rescue 374, as well as fellow emergency services, in paying our respects. Together, we joined the community in acknowledging the service and sacrifice of those who have protected our freedoms, both past and present.

Events like these highlight the strength of our community and the importance of unity, respect and remembrance.

We are honoured to play a part in commemorating this significant day and to stand in solidarity with those who serve and have served.

Lest we forget.

🌺 ANZAC Day 2026 — Lest We Forget 🌺

Today, the crew at Rutherford Fire Station stands in quiet tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and mateship of those who served, and those who continue to serve.

As dawn breaks across the Hunter, we pause to remember the firefighters, police, emergency service workers, and everyday Australians who have answered the call in times of war, peace, and disaster.

From the trenches to the front lines of modern emergencies, their spirit of service lives on in every uniform worn today.

🇦🇺 Lest We Forget.

🔥 Bush Fire Behind Weblands Street 🔥

Around 4:00 pm Monday 20th April, Rutherford crews, with our mates from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 374 Maitland rolling in to help, were called to a bushfire in the scrub behind Weblands Street, Rutherford.

Firefighters found a developing fire, burning through about 100–200m² of bushland. Between the two stations, it didn’t stand a chance.

No threat to property, just a bit of afternoon excitement for the neighbourhood.

If you’ve got any info about how this fire kicked off, please contact Crime Stoppers or Maitland Police. Even small details can make a difference.

âś… Severe weather alert eased

The weather alert has eased. Redevelopment of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall remains possible.

For details, download the hazards near me app via the App Store.

Issued: 2:14pm 18/01/2026

—————————————————-

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

The NSW SES advises that parts of the Hunter and Southwest Sydney are experiencing heavy to locally intense rainfall and very dangerous thunderstorms capable of causing life‑threatening flash flooding.

A fast‑moving coastal trough is driving rapidly changing conditions.

While the Maitland/Rutherford Area is not currently in the highest‑impact zone, the broader Hunter region is experiencing severe weather, and further storm development is possible.

For Our Community

Please take this seriously:

• Stay at home where possible

• Avoid unnecessary travel

• NEVER ENTER FLOODWATER — most flood rescues happen because someone thought, “It’ll be fine, I’ve driven through worse.” Unfortunately, the water disagreed… Just don’t do it!

• Keep monitoring official updates (Hazards near me app)

If you are or someone is in danger, call triple zero (000).

Otherwise for assistance in floods/storms contact the SES on 132500.
