🔥 Protect What You Value This Winter ❄️

With winter just beginning, now is the time to think about what matters most — your home, your loved ones, and your safety.
Colder weather means heaters, cooking, and power use all increase, which can also raise the risk of house fires. Taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference.

✅ Keep heaters clear of anything that can burn
✅ Never leave cooking unattended
✅ Avoid overloading power boards
✅ Make sure your family knows how to escape in an emergency

Being prepared isn’t just important — it could save lives.

🔥 It’s National Smoke Alarm Action Day!
A 60‑second check could save your life.

Across Australia, fire agencies are urging everyone to take part — and we’re backing it in Runnymede.

Here’s your quick safety check:
🚨 Find your smoke alarm
☝️ Press the test button
👂 Hear the beep? You’re protected
🤔 No beep? No alarm? Replace it now

A working smoke alarm gives you the best chance of getting out safely.

Don’t put it off — do it today and remind your neighbours too.

Let’s keep our community safe, together.

Last night, members of Runnymede Volunteer Fire Brigade gathered together at the Birch family’s Bonfire and Cracker Night — a great evening celebrating the camaraderie, friendship and strong community spirit that makes our brigade feel like one big family.

While we proudly serve our community on the fireground, nights like these remind us of the importance of connection, laughter and spending time together outside of the fire service too. 🔥🎆

Yesterday, volunteers from Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania SES gathered in Hobart for the annual Tasmanian Fire and Emergency Services State Conference — a major event on the emergency services calendar.

Runnymede Volunteer Fire Brigade was proudly represented by Firefighter Margaret Smith, who joined volunteers and staff from across the state for a full day of learning, connection and inspiration.

This year’s theme, “Creating Transformation and Honouring Tradition,” proved to be a roaring success. Attendees actively engaged in workshops, keynote sessions and conversations exploring everything from evolving emergency management practices to the enduring values that shape our services. It was a fantastic opportunity for professional development, networking and strengthening the partnerships that keep Tasmanian communities safe.

We’d like to thank the conference organisers, presenters and everyone who attended.
We hope all participants had a rewarding and energising day 🚒🦺💪

🎆 Fireworks Night is TOMORROW — Saturday 30 May across Tasmania! 💥

If you’re planning to light up the sky, here’s everything you need to know to keep your night safe, legal and neighbour‑friendly.

🔥 Fireworks Permits Are a Must
All fireworks displays in Tasmania must operate under a valid Fireworks Permit.
Check the full list of approved permits issued by WorkSafe Tasmania here ⬇️
https://worksafe.tas.gov.au/topics/licensing-permits-and-registration/fireworks-permits

🔥 Having a Bonfire Too? Register It!
Tasmania Fire Service recommends registering your bonfire on 1800 000 699.
This helps avoid an unnecessary brigade call‑out to your property.

🐾 Think of Pets & Neighbours
Not everyone loves fireworks — especially animals.
Loud bangs and bright flashes can be terrifying for pets, livestock and wildlife.
If you’re planning a display, give your neighbours a heads‑up so they can prepare and keep their animals safe.

👶 Keep Kids Safe
If you’re hosting or attending a fireworks night, stay alert, stay sober and keep a close eye on children around flames, fireworks and sparklers.

🚨 In an Emergency
Call Triple Zero (000) immediately for fire, police or ambulance.

🤩 From the Runnymede Volunteer Fire Brigade
We hope you enjoy your cracker night — whether you’re hosting or just watching the show.
Celebrate responsibly, look after each other, and have a fantastic night! 🎉🎇

🌧️ Rainy weather is settling in across the district, and it’s a good reminder to take extra care on our roads. 🛣️🚗

Wet surfaces reduce traction, increase stopping distances, and make it harder to see what’s ahead, especially on our rural roads.

A few simple choices make a big difference:
• Slow down and drive to the conditions
• Increase your following distance
• Turn your headlights on early
• Stay alert for wildlife and debris
• Take extra care on bends and gravel sections

Your safety helps keep our volunteers safe too.
