Restocker yearling steers in Roma

Since the beginning of 2019, restocker yearling steers sold in Roma have achieved an average result of 6% over the national aggregate, indicated by the Restocker Yearling Steer Indicator. Roma typically forms a significant component of the national yarding, averaging 29% of the total contribution across that timeframe.

Out of a total of 361 weeks, prices at the Roma Saleyards were higher than those seen for the Restocker Yearling Steer Indicator on 353 occasions (98% of the time). The consistency of this premium again demonstrates the significance of location with Roma Saleyards as a key transport centre for cattle and its proximity to buyers as a contributing factor to increased competition and ultimately price.

📅 Just a South West Farmer Workshop with “The Unbreakable Farmer” Warren Davies.

The South West TRACC Team and Roma Saleyards warmly invite owners and employees of agriculture-related businesses who regularly engage with primary producers across the Maranoa, Balonne, Murweh, Paroo, Bulloo and Quilpie Local Government Areas to attend the upcoming: Just a South West Farmer Workshop With “The Unbreakable Farmer” Warren Davies.

This workshop came about after conversations with local livestock agents who shared that, these days, they’re often doing a lot more than talking cattle prices and rainfall figures.

At times, agents are travelling out onto properties and may be the only face-to-face contact a producer has had in days or even weeks. Other times, they may be making the difficult phone call delivering disappointing sale results. Somewhere between auctions and assessments, mouthing steers, discussing market updates, and loading cattle, they can unexpectedly find themselves in the role of an “accidental counsellor” — hearing about relationship breakdowns, financial pressure, drought stress, or simply someone having a really tough run.
