Well last weekend was a pretty monumental day for our valley. We harvested our first grape crop. Carefully cultivated by Mark – these are his special little babies.
So, in only their second year of life, we got 82 crates of grapes which have all been sent off to crush. The vines are still young – so it was slide on your bottom or picking on your knees. This was a bit tricky with our old bodies. But Fiona and I had tons to chat about (so what is different you say!!!)
We started at daybreak – because it was scheduled to get to 40 by noon and by the time we had completed the task at 11am it was a scorcher.
So, here’s hoping they return to us as lovely light red – to sip on our deck over the summer days.
Some of you SPECIAL folks, may like to join us at one of our evening cherry opening occasions. BYO cheese and crackers of course!!!!

We’ve come to the end of our season at Irymple. And, although we are dog tired, we are also left with so many happy memories.
YOU, our customers, have made what we do - so enjoyable.
Thanks: for the friendly banter, the gifts, the wonderful feedback and of course the smiles.
We were super proud of our cherries this year. The weather gods were kind, and our cherry maestro Kim waved his magic wand, so our cherries were amazing.
There are lots of people behind the scenes: our pickers, packers, servers – the fellows who fix the picking machines and the broken mowers…., our families, friends and rellies …, but ultimately, we wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t for our customers.
So, our sincere thanks – but please don’t tell anyone new about us.
We have enough customers!!!!
Fingers crossed we will be back around late October.

You all know we do not allow public cherry picking – we guard our cherry trees with our life!!! But we KNOW lots of you want the fruit picking experience.
SO…,
For those who want top Pick their Own – you are welcome to pick some Santa Rosa plums at Irymple tomorrow (no cost).
These are easy to pick – easy to reach by little people.
The Santa Rosa plum is an old-fashioned variety – super sweet, soft flesh with a sharp tang around the skin and stone. They ripen excellently off the tree.
Our plum trees are loaded. Bring your own containers.
Conditions of entry:
You must purchase at least $40 worth of cherries to be allowed into the cherry groves (or pay $10 per person)
Children must be supervised.
Wear sensible clothes: closed in footwear, sunsmart clothes and insect repellent!
Maximum of 2kg – 3kg of plums per family group

(We will see how this goes tomorrow – we may allow it again on Saturday too.)

Cherry Harvest progress:
This has been a very good season for us with clean, wonderful tasting cherries being harvested every week. Today we picked our last Simone and tomorrow we will complete Lapin. And from the photo – we also picked thru Sweet Georgia. These will now be super chilled until just after New Year when our cherry fans will be invited to come along for their last cherry fix for the year (around January 3rd.)

The Cherry Story 16th to 19th December
Irymple had the huge thunderstorm storm but less than 4mm of rain was recorded, so there's not much damage to the cherries!
Pictured – Fiona’s grandees, Nicky and Okky, have prepared a Dino-rama on the shed floor for customers. Noice!
We are gearing up for Christmas cherry sales over this week and next.
Tuesday–Thursday: We are packing in the shed. We will serve you, but the gate may be closed if we leave early or need to restock. Please avoid these days if you are not close by.
We will be open for public sales on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and we hope Sunday 21st.
Varieties
This week we have good quantities of Simone and Lapin and tomorrow we will again be picking Stella.
By the end of the week, the extra-large Sonata should be ready! Fingers crossed we will have Sweet Georgia before XMAS too.

IMPORTANT - Product Recall
We have been made aware that the Apricots we were selling over Friday and Saturday may have had fruit fly. Thus, we would like to offer anyone who purchased these, their money back or the equivalent in cherries! Please just take a photo of the apricots to prove purchase. Feel free to stew them or use them for cooking/jam but we do not suggest they should be eaten! Our apologies - they came from one of our neighbouring orchards. This just shows the difficulty of selling fruit as outwardly these fruit looked perfect.
This must be reclaimed on or before Saturday 20 December.
