The P&C at Rocky High are reaching out to you all because they need your help.

It has been a long standing tradition to run car parking on the school ovals for the Rocky Show, but to be honest they are struggling to fill the roster. If you can spare 2 or 3 hours on either Thursday (show day) or Friday afternoon, it would mean the world to us.

It’s easy, it’s social and a great community service.

We’d really love to see you there.

Congratulations to our two Intermediate volleyball teams on their performances at the Queensland Volleyball Schools Cup over the weekend. For many of our students, this was their first time experiencing and participating in such a competition. Both teams demonstrated improvement and success throughout the competition, both coming away with multiple wins. Well done to all students on their performances and their behaviour both on and off the court.

Thank you to Echidna Embroidery for sponsoring our Intermediate teams this year!

Outstanding Achievement for Archie!

Archie has returned from Mackay after an impressive performance at the North Queensland Championships in Athletics.

Competing in shot put, discus, javelin and hammer throw, Archie not only achieved personal bests in both discus and hammer throw but also claimed first prize in all four events! What an accomplishment!!

He now turns his attention to the Festival of Athletics in Townsville in three weeks' time, where he will once again represent the region in competition.

Congratulations Archie! We wish you all the best in Townsville.

Connecting Students with Industry: Learning from local professionals

Year 10 is a pivotal time for our students as they begin preparing for the senior phase of learning and make important decisions about their future pathways. Which is why we invited 35 representatives from local businesses to speak with our students.

Our students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the recruitment process, workplace expectations, career pathways and valuable life lessons that come from entering the workforce.

Supporting their studies in Career Education (short course), students will use the insights gained to prepare presentations to share with their peers, further strengthening their understanding of future career pathways.

We sincerely thank all the business and local professionals who came out to support our students and share their knowledge.

We encourage students who are interested in more information on career options, work experience opportunities or school-based apprenticeships to speak to our staff in the FEET first program.

It's all smiles and lollipops here at Rocky State High 🍭

Our school takes staff wellbeing seriously and recognises the incredible time, care and energy our teachers dedicate to supporting our students every day.

That's why we bought flu vaccinations directly to our staff - making it easier for them to look after their health while continuing to do that they do best in the classroom.

A small initiative that supports a healthier, happier school community. 💙

Wrapping up our music celebrations with Instrumental Fanfare 2026

To end what was a very busy week of music, our Instrumental Music students again played at the Pilbeam Theatre on Thursday 21 May as part of the statewide Instrumental Fanfare competition.

Instrumental Fanfare is the biennial statewide festival of bands and orchestras from Queensland state schools. It showcases the exciting music-making that occurs in school-based ensembles across the state. The emphasis for Instrumental Fanfare is on improving the quality of ensembles, promoting the highest possible standard of performance, striving for excellence, and encouraging participation.

All of our ensembles performed well, with the following results being awarded to our ensembles:

Concert Band - Platinum Award
Chambers Winds - Silver Award
Chamber Strings - Gold Award

These achievements would not be possible without the time and energy of our dedicated Instrumental Music teachers - Ms Parker, Mr Gazzola and Mrs Holbeck.

Thank you once again to our wider Instrumental Music team - Teigh, Mrs Stubbs and Miss Thomasson - for all of their work leading up to and on the day. Our thanks also go to Sienna, Max, Charlotte, Joshua and Lilliana who also gave up their day to lend their support to our Instrumental Music students by assisting backstage at Fanfare.

We are very proud of our students' achievements at Instrumental Fanfare and thank them for representing Rockhampton State High School so well. Congratulations!

Continuing our Music celebrations...
Rockhampton Eisteddfod 2026 - Instrumental Music

Last Monday, several of our Instrumental Music ensembles competed at the annual Rockhampton Eisteddfod. All ensembles performed well, with two groups playing in the chamber music sections, which are unconducted.

The Chamber Winds were awarded second place for their performance, while the Concert Band secured a highly commended for their efforts. Our Chamber Strings performed beautifully and were unlucky not to place in their section.

Thank you to Mrs Holbeck, Mr Gazzola and Ms Parker for preparing our students for this event. Our thanks to the many staff who work behind the scenes and assist with student supervision at these events - Teigh Nichols, Ms Thomasson and Mrs Stubbs.

Congratulations to all students involved on representing our school so well.

Celebrating a big week for our Music students and team.
Starting with SHEP (State Honours Ensemble Program) Capricornia

This year, four students from Rockhampton State High School were selected for the Capricornia State Honours Ensemble Program, held from 15-17 May at North Rockhampton State High School.

This program, run by Griffith University Conservatorium of Music, is an intensive workshop weekend, culminating in a concert on the final day. SHEP Capricornia is open to more experienced students in Years 7-12, offering them the opportunity for musical extension and to work with experienced conductors from different areas of the state.

Well done to Danika, Jayce, Alexis and Juliette on their selection for this program this year.

Yesterday, our school proudly hosted our National Sorry Day assemblies, providing an opportunity for reflection, learning and respect as we acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the ongoing journey of reconciliation in Australia.

During the assemblies, Mr Newell reaffirmed the school's commitment to reconciliation, cultural understanding and creating a strong sense of belonging for our First Nations students, families and community. Student leaders also played an important role in sharing messages of reflection, respect and unity.

As a school community, we remain committed to listening, learning and walking together. ❤💛🖤
