Imagination was in full swing during outdoor play today, using milk crates the children worked together to create their very own police car. They carefully stacked and arranged the crates, creating a separate enclosed space for the “person they caught,” before hopping into the front seats to pretend to drive the police car away. 🚓

It was wonderful to watch the children use their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to bring their ideas to life. Seeing their imaginations unfold through open-ended play was such a special highlight of our morning outdoors.

Today we were so excited to welcome Healthy Harold to our centre. The children loved participating in the interactive session, learning all about healthy choices, looking after their bodies and wellbeing in a fun and engaging way.

There were lots of smiles, laughter and excitement as the children joined in with the experience and spent time with Harold. Experiences like these are such a wonderful way to support children’s understanding of health, wellbeing and self-care through hands-on learning.

Today we acknowledge National Sorry Day, a day to reflect, listen, learn, and recognise the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generations, their families, and communities.

As we continue learning alongside the children, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding, and meaningful conversations about Australia’s shared history and the importance of reconciliation.

National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.

The first National Sorry Day was held on 26 May 1998, one year after the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament. The Bringing Them Home report is a result of a Government Inquiry into the past policies which caused children to be removed from their families and communities in the 20th century.

Following this, in 2000, there was one issue that was high on the agenda at the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk for reconciliation – an apology to the Stolen Generations.

It was also high in the sky, when a group of people – independent to the organisation of the walk – had the word ‘sorry’ written in the clear blue skies above the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Such was the intensity of feeling and support for Stolen Generations members – many of whom were among the huge crowd that day.

Today, twenty-three years after the Bringing Them Home report and twelve years since the National Apology, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are still 10.6 times more likely than non-Indigenous children to be removed from their families.

We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without accepting the truth of our history. Sorry Day asks us to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, and in doing so, reminds us that historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families, communities, and peoples.

National Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🖤

This week, we begin recognising and celebrating National Reconciliation Week, a time to learn about, reflect on, and strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

Through meaningful experiences, stories, games, symbols, and conversations, the children are encouraged to develop respect, understanding, and appreciation for First Nations cultures, histories, and perspectives.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where children can learn about the importance of connection, community, culture, and belonging.

On this day our Pre-Kindy and Toddler children came together for a special nature inspired art experience. Alongside their educators, the children explored the outdoor environment collecting leaves for a collaborative group creation.

The children excitedly shared their discoveries with one another, comparing shapes, sizes, and colours as they searched through the garden. Back inside, they worked together to create a large nature turtle using clear contact and the materials they had collected. Carefully placing leaves and sticks onto the turtle outline, the children used teamwork, creativity, and imagination to bring their artwork to life.

This beautiful experience encouraged collaboration, communication, and a connection with the natural environment, while also giving the children a sense of pride in contributing to a shared project together.

What an absolutely creative idea from our educators, using old bike tyre wheels as hanging displays for children’s artwork has transformed a simple recycled item into something truly beautiful.

This wonderful loose parts creation not only supports sustainability and recycling, but also creates a meaningful space where children can proudly see their artwork displayed throughout the room. Having their creations visible in the environment helps foster a strong sense of belonging, confidence, and pride in their learning.

It has been so lovely to watch the children excitedly point out their artwork and share their creations with educators, peers, and families. A beautiful example of how everyday items can be thoughtfully repurposed into engaging and inspiring learning environments.

Bringing the Outdoors In 🍅

Our centre is absolutely loving the outdoors and sustainability this term, with many of the children gravitating towards gardening and caring for the environment. Our Senior Toddler and Pre-Kindy children have been busy starting their very own seedling containers as they begin learning about the journey from seed to plant. The children planted a variety of vegetables including beetroot, tomato, and corn, carefully preparing the soil and planting the seeds with excitement and curiosity.

As part of this experience, the children also collected and reused a variety of recyclable containers for their seedling starters. This created meaningful conversations about sustainability and how items that have already been used can be repurposed into something new and useful. Over the coming weeks, the children will be documenting the growing process, observing changes, watering the seedlings, and making sure they receive plenty of sunlight to help them thrive.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, the children will transfer them into our large outdoor garden area where they can continue caring for them and patiently wait to watch their vegetables grow even bigger. This hands-on experience encourages responsibility, sustainability, patience, and a deeper connection with nature through play and discovery.

On this day the children came together for a creative and sensory art experience using natural materials. The children explored a variety of seashells and colourful paints, using the shells as stamps to create beautiful patterns and prints on paper. The textured shells created unique designs, sparking conversations about shapes, colours, and textures.

This hands on experience encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, and early problem solving skills while also supporting collaborative play and curiosity about the natural world.

Our outdoor environment has been full of creativity and construction play this morning. A child used milk crates to carefully build two tall towers with a special space in the middle to stand in. They had a clear design in mind and worked thoughtfully to bring their idea to life, stacking each crate higher and higher with determination and focus.

Another child explored construction using wooden blocks and balance boards, creating what they proudly called their “house.” They experimented with stacking the blocks in different directions, balancing and rebuilding as they worked, proudly admiring their finished creation at the end.

Construction play is such a valuable part of children’s learning. Experiences like these support problem solving, creativity, critical thinking and spatial awareness, while also encouraging persistence, confidence and imagination through open-ended play.
