Called to build-called to let go
Some strong words here - BOND-SERVANT, APOSTLE and SET APART.
Roman’s 1 says Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God…
If I placed adhesive/glue in between 2 bits of timber it would form the bond between the pieces, creating a strong connection. A bond is a tie, link or attachment. A strong bond is the outcome of the substance used to form that connection. What was the substance used in Paul’s life that formed that bond with Jesus? Relationship and revelation. Law and religious teaching did not meet Saul on that road. Relationship and revelation did. This has to be the substance used to shape our bond with Jesus. The word says he was a bond-servant of Christ Jesus not a bond-servant to religious law. Not a bond servant to Pharisees or a church building. We need to form healthy bonds and detach from unhealthy ones.
Paul was called an apostle. Some thoughts on this word… "one who is sent out" or "sent one". It signifies an official messenger, or ambassador delegated with authority to represent the sender. It functions as a strategic leadership gift focused on church planting, pioneering new ministries, and mentoring other leaders. A bond-servant and apostle and was said to be set apart for the gospel of God.
20 odd years prior, this same man was said to have been ‘ravaging the church, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison’. (Acts 8:3). ‘now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the lord’… (acts 9:1). What happened in the 3 days when he was blinded by Gods presence? In 3 days his eyesight changed. From a bond-servant to hatred and anger to a bond-servant to Jesus. I think in 3 days he had to let go of a ton of things. How could he not? It’s impossible to have such strong powerful words attached to you like in Roman’s 1 without letting go of something. To move forward in one accord with Gods mission, we have to let go. We are called to build and we are called to let go.
Think that your too far gone for God to save? Done too many wrong things? The bible says that God met Saul while he was still breathing threats and murder…. God wants to meet us while we are struggling with anger, lust, gambling issues, po*******hy, jealousy, grief. He wants to meet and change us through relationship and revelation.
Never too late
