Well done to our two members that took on Navshield over the weekend!

Ladene and Yvette joined members from NSW SES Swansea - Catherine Hill Bay Unit, NSW SES Wyong Unit, NSW SES Lake Macquarie Unit and NSW SES Cooranbong Unit to take on the challenge this year.

Navshield is an annual wilderness navigation event hosted by NSW SES. Using only map and compass, teams navigate rugged bush terrain to locate checkpoints, building teamwork, endurance and practical land search skills in a realistic field environment.

Last week we got to hold our WOW (Wear Orange Wednesday) Games Night!

A night where we all got together to have some fun and play some games and celebrate all aspects of being a volunteer.

The theme was silly shirts and crazy hats and our members didn’t disappoint.

Last night our crews attended this MVA. Great team work by all agencies involved.

Medowie crews were called out overnight to assist with a Motor Vehicle Accident where a car and B-Double fuel tanker has collided. It took rescue crews nearly an hour to free the driver of the car before they were treated by ambulance crews and eventually airlifted to hospital. Fortunately the fuel tanker was empty at the time.

Incredible work by all emergency services in some very difficult conditions.

On Tuesday our team had the opportunity to drive through the soon to be opened M1 extension to Raymond Terrace. They got the opportunity to stop along the way and learn about how the new road will operate, emergency cross over points and counter flow traffic barriers to assist us when we need to respond to an emergency. We were joined by NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance, Port Stephens Council and Fire and Rescue NSW.
A massive thanks to Transport for NSW for making it happen - the crew in attendance learnt a lot and really appreciated the opportunity.
