The Member for Central Wheatbelt Lachlan Hunter MP is undertaking a survey to capture feedback from regional businesses that are experiencing workforce issues as a result of the recent changes to Working Holiday Visas.

This is not a Shire survey, however the Shire understands there are several community members with an interest in the Federal Governments Working Holiday Maker Visa Program and therefore deem it appropriate to promote the survey.

Thank You, Quairading Volunteers!

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our recent quick survey about volunteering in Quairading — and for sharing a little about the important work you do in our town.

We were blown away by the passion and commitment shown by our local volunteers. Here are a few highlights from the survey:

🌟 63% of respondents have been volunteering for more than 10 years!

⏰ 44% volunteer between 11–20 hours each month.

💚 72% volunteer because they want to give back to the community.

Our volunteers are involved across so many local groups, including St John Ambulance, Quairading P&C, tennis, Hockey, Football, Netball, golf (seniors and juniors), Playgroup, Curtain Raisers, Tidy Towns and the Vintage Club, just to name a few.

☕ A friendly reminder: If you completed the survey and haven't picked up your coffee voucher yet, they are available from the front desk at the Quairading CRC.

Thanks again to everyone who participated, and most importantly, thank you for volunteering and helping make Quairading the wonderful community it is!

The Shire of Quairading is seeking community feedback on the future location of two historic war memorial plaques commemorating local Quairading soldiers who served and lost their lives during World War I and World War II.

Unfortunately, the tower sustained damage recently and was subsequently deemed structurally unsound by an engineer, resulting in its demolition.

There are two options for the plaques:
➡ Option 1 – Relocate the plaques to the Swimming Pool Building
The plaques could be relocated to a suitable location within or around the swimming pool precinct.

➡ Option 2 – Relocate the plaques to the War Memorial Precinct (near Elders)
The plaques could instead be relocated to the existing War Memorial precinct, bringing the names of fallen soldiers together in a dedicated area of remembrance.

We would like to hear from the community about which option you would prefer, as well as any thoughts or suggestions you may have regarding the future location and presentation of the plaques.

These plaques are an important part of our history and commemorate people who served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice. We want to ensure their future location appropriately reflects their significance to our community.

As per Section 3.58 of the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Quairading is proposing to dispose of a portion of Reserve 16405 known as 3 Weir Street, Quairading by way of a lease.

The particulars of the disposal are as follows:
Property: Portion of Reserve 16405 – 3 Weir Road, Quairading
Lessee: CRISP Wireless
Consideration: $1.00 per annum via lease agreement
Market Valuation: $12,800 or $8/square metre (sale price)
Purpose: Telecommunications facility

2026–27 Annual Budget Adopted ✅

The Shire of Quairading has adopted its 2026–27 Annual Budget and Fees and Charges Schedule at the August Ordinary Council Meeting held on 27 August 2026.

The budget reflects a clear focus on responsible financial management, maintaining essential services, and managing the increasing costs facing local government and our community.

The Shire’s total operating revenue is $5,103,079, with funding coming predominantly from rates income, fees & charges and grants/subsidies.

The 2026–27 Budget provides a framework for delivering essential services and supporting the ongoing needs of our community while maintaining a responsible and sustainable financial position.

Developed from significant community engagement, the Shire’s Council Plan 2026-2036 reflects this with several outcomes seeking improved housing options.

Four New Modular Social Homes Coming to Quairading

Quairading is set to benefit from four brand new social homes as part of a major $27.2 million investment delivering 54 new homes across the Wheatbelt.

The project is being supported by $16.96 million from the Cook Government and $10.24 million through the Albanese Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund, with the homes to be manufactured by Western Australian company Modular WA.

For Quairading, this means four new two-bedroom homes designed to provide modern, accessible and secure housing for seniors, helping older residents remain in the community they know and love.

The homes will be built to Silver Liveable Housing Australia standards, supporting residents to age in place while remaining connected to family, friends and local services.

Central East Accommodation and Care Alliance Inc. (CEACA) encompasses over 50,000 square kilometers of WA's Wheatbelt, including the Shires of Quairading, Bruce Rock, Dowerin, Kellerberrin, Merredin, Mt Marshall, Mukinbudin, Narembeen, Westonia, Wyalkatchem and Yilgarn.

The Shire of Quairading is proud to be a member CEACA and to support investment that strengthens our community, increases local housing options and helps residents remain connected to the town they call home.
