Late yesterday, crews undertook a FLIR (forward looking infra red) operation over the Brassknocker fire. This was a fantastic result, with only a limited number of hotspots identified.
This outcome is a direct result of the hard work of firefighters over the course of the incident, and the wonderful rain received across the fireground.
The FLIR identified a small number of remaining hotspots, including burning trees both standing and on the ground and stumps within the containment lines.
Over the coming days, firefighters will assess access onto the fireground which has been restricted following the rain. All attempts will be made to fully extinguish identified hotspots, with assistance from aircraft where required.
As conditions warm and fuels continue to dry, it is expected that additional hotspots may appear. This may include unburnt fuels igniting and burning, and smoke may be visible at times. This fire behaviour is anticipated.
We want to reassure the community that crews will continue to monitor and manage these hotspots as they arise. There is no concern at this stage of fire activity outside the containment lines.
The community may see smoke and aircraft operating in the area. We understand this may cause concern, however this is a normal and necessary part of the firefighting process to fully extinguish the fire. Crews will remain on scene and will continue to monitor and patrol the fireground until it is fully extinguished.
