Always get a permit. And read it!

With the ground drying out, landholders are wanting to burn off.

All fires over 2m in any direction require a permit.

Permits are free.

In rural Queensland the use of fire is controlled through the volunteer Fire Warden network.

Remember, if you live in an urban or rural fringe community, the Fire Warden could be your local fire station.

The Fire Warden’s role includes:
-granting or rejecting applications for permit to light fire
-determining the conditions under which permitted fires can be lit
-advising owners and occupiers of the need for fuel and hazard reduction
-recommending safety precautions for the protection of homes and assets.

Do you have free time and are considering volunteering?

Joining your local Rural Fire Brigade is more than just fighting fires; it’s about becoming part of your local community. You will find friends who will help you on your firefighting journey. You will work as a team and gain nationally recognised skills in teamwork, leadership and emergency response.

Experience the camaraderie of your teammates, all working towards a common goal of protecting friends and neighbours. You can become a frontline team member, or work in communications and even help with community education. Your contribution will make a direct life-saving impact in the place you call home.

To Join:
Be over 18 and have a relevant ID
Have a Blue Card (if not, apply for one)
Note: A Police clearance check will be done
You must be medically fit to join the firefighters

For us all to remember, and remind us what can happen.

The volunteer brigade from Terip Terip went through "hell" and back, narrowly escaping death while fighting to save their own community and those nearby.
