🐦 It’s baby bird season! 🐣💚
With baby bird season well and truly underway, we’re receiving a high volume of calls from caring members of the public wanting to help birds in need.
While we absolutely love all wildlife, our main area of experience is caring for orphaned kangaroo, wallaby and possum joeys. We currently have many little ones in our care, and as volunteers, we are already stretched both financially and with the time involved in providing them with the specialised care they need. 🦘❤️
We can occasionally assist with certain nestling birds where we have the appropriate experience, knowledge and specialised formula. However, sick or injured birds need to be taken directly to a veterinarian for assessment by the person who has found them.
With the ongoing concerns surrounding avian influenza (bird flu), we also need to be particularly mindful of protecting the many vulnerable animals currently in our care and minimising any potential disease risks.
Please know that this is not because we don’t care. Quite the opposite! ❤️ We care deeply about all creatures, great and small, but we also recognise our limitations and the importance of ensuring every animal receives the appropriate care.
Unfortunately, taking in sick or injured birds is simply beyond our current expertise and capacity.
We’ve attached the contact numbers for Save Our Wildlife SA and Fauna Rescue SA, who may be able to provide advice and guidance about birds needing assistance.
Thank you for your understanding, your kindness and, most importantly, for looking out for our precious wildlife. Every little life matters. 🦘🐦🐾💚
Thank you for caring! 😊
