NEVER FORGET — 11 SEPTEMBER 2001

Today, we pause to remember the firefighters and emergency service personnel who answered the call on September 11, 2001 — many knowing they were walking into unimaginable danger.

343 FDNY firefighters lost their lives that day.

They climbed the stairs while thousands were coming down.

They carried their equipment toward the danger while others were escaping from it.

They went to work that morning as firefighters, colleagues, mates, sons, daughters, husbands, fathers, brothers and sisters — and they became part of a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Although an ocean separates us, the bond of the firefighting family knows no borders.

From the firefighters of Fire & Rescue NSW, we honour the courage, sacrifice and selflessness of our fallen brothers and sisters in New York, and we remember all those whose lives were lost or forever changed on September 11.

To the 343 who answered their final call:

We remember you.
We honour you.
We will never forget you.

Courage • Sacrifice • Brotherhood

Hazard Reduction Burn Notice

Fire + Rescue NSW, in conjunction with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), advises that a planned hazard reduction burn will be conducted behind Port Macquarie’s Industrial Area today, Sunday, 9 August 2026, from 10:00 am until approximately 3:00 pm.

Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas throughout the operation. Residents, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, are advised to remain indoors where possible and keep windows and doors closed to minimise exposure to smoke.

If you experience difficulty breathing or your medical condition worsens, seek medical advice or assistance as appropriate.

We appreciate the community’s understanding while this important bushfire risk reduction work is carried out
