NEVER FORGET — 11 SEPTEMBER 2001
Today, we pause to remember the firefighters and emergency service personnel who answered the call on September 11, 2001 — many knowing they were walking into unimaginable danger.
343 FDNY firefighters lost their lives that day.
They climbed the stairs while thousands were coming down.
They carried their equipment toward the danger while others were escaping from it.
They went to work that morning as firefighters, colleagues, mates, sons, daughters, husbands, fathers, brothers and sisters — and they became part of a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Although an ocean separates us, the bond of the firefighting family knows no borders.
From the firefighters of Fire & Rescue NSW, we honour the courage, sacrifice and selflessness of our fallen brothers and sisters in New York, and we remember all those whose lives were lost or forever changed on September 11.
To the 343 who answered their final call:
We remember you.
We honour you.
We will never forget you.
Courage • Sacrifice • Brotherhood
