Town of Port Hedland Welcome to the Town of Port Hedland’s official page It is also home to the heart of Western Australia’s iron ore mining industry.

The vast Pilbara region is awe-inspiring, from its incredible size of more than 500,000 square kilometres, to its isolated and rugged beauty. Our dynamic town of 14,500 is relaxed and open. The town’s location on the ocean provides for a variety of aquatic leisure activities including superb fishing. Whales and nesting flatback turtles can be seen in season. Millstream and Karijini National Parks are within easy driving distance, while Broome and the Kimberley are also within reach. The original inhabitants, the Karriyarra people, call Port Hedland 'Marapikurrinya' for the hand shaped formation of the tidal creeks coming off the natural harbour.

The Town of Port Hedland is proud to support Care For Hedland Environmental Association's latest recycling initiative: the new Containers for Change Drop & Go facilities ♻️💚

By providing a convenient and accessible recycling option for people who rely on walking, cycling, scooters or public transport, these facilities make it easier for more community members to participate in the program, contributing to a more sustainable Hedland 🌏

With the first facility now open outside Wanangkura Stadium in South Hedland and another coming soon to Port Hedland, residents can conveniently drop off eligible containers and earn a refund while helping protect our environment.

The Town wishes to advise that traffic management will be in place on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟰 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟴:𝟯𝟬𝗮𝗺 while contractors undertake graffiti removal works in the vicinity of Forrest Circle and Throssell Road.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 🏠

The Town of Port Hedland was pleased to have welcomed Housing and Works Minister Hon John Carey MLA and Pilbara Kevin Michel MLA as part of the Pilbara Housing and Pilbara as part of the Pilbara Housing Roadshow on Monday 31 August.

The forum brought together representatives from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH), Government Regional Officers' Housing (GROH), industry and local stakeholders to discuss opportunities to increase housing supply and unlock future development across Hedland.

During the visit, the Minister toured the Town's proposed Key Worker Housing Project, which has secured almost $10 million in State Government funding support and will deliver 56 accommodation units for essential workers.

Housing remains one of the Town's highest advocacy priorities. By working together across all levels of government and industry, we can unlock new housing opportunities, support our workforce, and continue building a stronger future for Hedland.

We thank Minister Carey MLA, Kevin Michel MLA and all stakeholders for their ongoing commitment to housing delivery in our region.

The plan will help ensure our community is better prepared to recover from major disruptions, such as cyclones, support local businesses and protect local jobs.
