We are excited to announce the launch of the Flinders Ranges Heritage Trail - a new heritage tourism initiative that celebrates the remarkable natural and human histories of the Northern Flinders Ranges.

The trail is divided into four routes that progressively take you deeper into the Flinders Ranges and into the deep-time histories of the area.

With walks and guided tours along the way, and visits to National Parks, significant Adnyamathanha sites and some fascinating colonial ruins, the Flinders Ranges Heritage Trail has something for everyone.

The Heritage Trail is available as a brochure in Visitor Centres in the region, and also as a print-at-home version on our website:

UPDATE 1.20PM 27/5/26: Roads have been reopened after a fatal crash at Bulgunnia, in the State’s far north.

At about 12.30am on Tuesday 26 May, emergency services were called to the Stuart Highway, approximately 100 km north of Glendambo following reports of a head-on collision between a road train and a Jeep SUV.

Sadly, the driver of the Jeep, a 40-year-old man from the Northern Territory died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 41-year-old man from Roseworthy sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment.

Major Crash investigators attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Roads are open in both directions and the road train has been towed from the scene.

The man’s death is the 46th life lost on South Australian roads this year.

There is a great event in Beltana on Wednesday 20 May - meet the people who are driving two 1925 Studebakers from Adelaide to Darwin!

In May 1926, Bagot’s Northern Territory Motor Tours set off on an epic journey from Adelaide to Darwin and back. At the time this was the world’s longest commercial motor tour. It was undertaken in two Studebaker 7 seater passenger cars and two supply trucks, catering for 12 paying passengers and a crew of 6, over 5 weeks.

100 years later, descendants of the original tour guides are re-creating the trip, also in two 100 year old Studebakers, and following the original route.

Leaving Adelaide on 18 May, they are holding a public event in Beltana on Wednesday 20 May. Join them for a BBQ dinner, see the cars, and view the film of the original trip.

Bar available, BBQ and film $30 -$5 donation to RFDS for each ticket sold.

When: Wednesday May 20th, 6pm
Location: Beltana Community Hall
RSVP: to Jan on 0401 719 882

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is hiring now for the 2026 Census, and there are a range of Census jobs you can apply for across the outback.

Right now, the ABS is recruiting for Field Officers. These are casual roles for people in outback communities to promote Census participation, answer questions, and deliver Census materials to households. Applications close 14 May.

Having local people in Census roles helps ensure that everyone in our communities is counted, and that we get accurate Census data to benefit our communities over the coming years.

Visit http://census.abs.gov.au/jobs for more info and to apply.
