Founded in 1997, the Australian Fisheries Academy was established as an industry managed education centre for the maritime, fishing and seafood industries. It is now recognised as a leader in the provision of maritime, fishing and seafood industry-based education and development programs, both within and outside of Australia. ng name to become the Australian Maritime & Fisheries Academy (AMFA). The new name reflects the increased number of students, courses and demand the maritime sector has experienced in the last few years. AMFA students now have wider career options than ever before, with the oil and gas sectors of the resources industry becoming a large utiliser of skilled maritime workers. AMFA is the only industry owned and operated maritime, seafood and fishing industry development and training organisation in the Southern Hemisphere. Its role is to provide education, management, advisory and support services in all fisheries related development and training areas.
