City of Port Adelaide Enfield

City of Port Adelaide Enfield Official account of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. We're here Mon to Fri 8:30am-5pm. The City of PAE is a cultural and historical hub.

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is one of the largest council regions in metropolitan Adelaide, with boundaries extending from the River Torrens to Outer Harbor covering a diverse area of 97 square kilometres. The Council is divided into seven wards that span across 51 suburbs and includes part of four Federal Electorates; Port Adelaide, Adelaide, Makin and Sturt. It is home to some of the State

’s finest historical buildings and landmarks, together with a wealth of parks, cultural facilities beaches and recreational areas. Historic Port Adelaide was central to the colonization of South Australia dating right back to its inception in 1836, when Colonel William Light first sailed up the Port River. Port Adelaide has been the gateway to trade and commerce in South Australia ever since, and was the first contact with South Australia for thousands of immigrants when they arrived by ship. As well as being an industrial hub and home to much of South Australia’s high tech defence industry, Port Adelaide today is a tourism hub. It features a mixture of history and modernisation with many historical landmarks having been converted for modern use. Enfield was predominantly a farming area, with fertile country along the River Torrens and wheat and grain fields in its northern reaches. Today it is home to a large proportion of Adelaide’s multicultural community which includes people from a wide range of backgrounds.

We’re currently seeking feedback on our draft Living Environment plans. Your input will help shape the actions we take to care for our environment now and into the future.

The City of PAE is a city of contrasts, combining urban and industrial landscapes with rich natural environments that support biodiversity and cultural heritage. As Kaurna Country, PAE is home to a diverse community committed to sustainability.

PAE's natural assets include the Barker Inlet wetlands, Mutton Cove, the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary and the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary/Winaityinaityi Pangkara, alongside coastal dunes, mangroves, samphire habitats, remnant vegetation and freshwater systems like Karrawirra Parri/ River Torrens. Rapid development, habitat loss and climate change (including hotter temperatures, declining rainfall, extreme weather and rising seas) demand urgent, collaborative action.

Through our Clean and Green City Strategy, we are working with partners to protect natural spaces, restore biodiversity and build a sustainable future for all. The draft Living Environment Plan outlines how we’ll protect and enhance our natural environment, respond to a changing climate and reduce environmental impacts across the city. It is supported by three draft delivery plans:

• Climate Response Plan - reducing emissions, strengthening resilience and considering climate in decision making.
• Integrated Water Management Plan - supporting our transition towards a water sensitive city.
• Urban Greening and Biodiversity Plan - improving tree canopy cover, supporting urban forest health and helping nature thrive in our neighbourhoods.

Read the draft plans in full on our engagement portal: https://participate.cityofpae.sa.gov.au/living-environment. You can also attend a drop-in or workshop to discuss the plans in person with our staff. Dates and times are available online.

The Australian Army will be carrying out Exercise Rhino Resolve this weekend at Osborne, Edinburgh, and Woodside. The training helps Army personnel to be prepared to respond to a domestic security situation, defend Australia’s territory, and protect citizens during a response.

During the exercise, you may notice more military activity than usual in the area. This could include military vehicles coming in and out of Defence sites on the peninsula, and soldiers moving around within Defence areas wearing body armour, helmets, and carrying weapons. Civilian “role players” will also be interacting with soldiers as part of the training scenario.

Some soldiers may carry weapons using blank ammunition for training purposes. There will be no live ammunition used at any time, and no blank ammunition will be fired within the Osborne Naval Shipyard.

The exercise will run 12-14 June, and is not expected to affect local businesses, public roads, or day-to-day activities in the area. If you see any of this activity, there is no cause for concern.

The Army is working closely with local council, police, and the community to run the exercise safely and appreciates the continued support of the South Australian community.

Exercises like this are essential to enhance Defence’s ability to protect civilians, personnel, critical facilities and protect Australia from any potential threat.

Road renewal works are well underway on Sheffield Crescent, Blair Athol, as crews excavate the old road base ready for a new surface.

This is one of many road projects of this type that we undertake each year, as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, accessible and reliable local road network. This is guided by a long-term, strategic approach to asset management.

We’re rebuilding this section of road from the ground up to improve safety, durability and everyday use. As well as new asphalt we're building new kerbs, gutters, and pedestrian ramps.

With more than 708 kilometres of local roads we look after across the City of PAE, prioritising maintenance and upgrades is no small task.

We use a detailed Road Asset Management Plan to guide these decisions. This plan draws on condition audits and long-term financial planning to determine where and when renewal work is required.

This allows us to carefully plan and stage works to address issues early, helping to extend the life of assets and reduce long-term costs.

On any given day in our community, there is a good chance local legend Allan Cleanthous is quietly helping someone navigate life a little more easily.

Allan wears a few hats, but they are all driven by the same motivation. As he puts it, his purpose is “to help and equip others to be helpers and equippers”.

It is a phrase he has carried with him since his theological studies in the late 1990s, and it explains why his impact has been felt across churches, caring networks and everyday legal encounters.

After stepping away from a long career in the Australian Customs Service, Allan became Senior Pastor at what is now the Lefevre Christian Family Centre. Over the years, the church has become a gathering point for genuine connection, support and community.

One of Allan’s proudest memories is hosting Community Carols at Fotheringham Reserve for 20 consecutive years. Families travelled from all over Adelaide. “It gave me a great sense of joy in being able to bring the community together,” he says.

Allan’s journey as a carer began in 2015 after his wife was diagnosed with stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Through CarersSA, he found support, perspective and eventually a new way to give back.

Now a volunteer, JP, Carer Champion and Digital Health Champion, he helps others find their voice and confidence in systems that can feel overwhelming. “Sharing my carer story with others and allowing their stories to merge with mine gave each of us a shared sense of understanding,” he says.

For Allan, it all comes back to people. Helping them slow down, feel supported and remember they do not have to walk alone.
