It was a pleasure to attend the 2026 Curtinnovation Awards to recognise the researchers, students and innovators behind some very impressive projects and ideas.
The awards highlighted the work being undertaken across agriculture, health, technology, sustainability and space, with a strong focus on translating research into practical products and solutions with real-world impact.
Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners, finalists and nominees. A great reflection of the depth of talent, skills and world-leading capability we have here in Western Australia.

I enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time in the Speaker’s Chair as Acting Speaker during the 31st The Y Youth Parliament WA.
Youth Parliament has been running for more than 30 years and gives young Western Australians a chance to see how Parliament works, debate ideas and have a say on issues they care about.
I was really impressed by the confidence and effort of everyone involved.
The standard of debate was excellent, and the Chamber was remarkably well behaved. Not something you can always say about Parliament!

Another day, another heavy haulage truck makes its way through the centre of Pinjarra.
During the last sitting week, I raised a formal grievance directly with the Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport about some of the major transport and road safety issues facing our community.
At the top of the list was the Pinjarra Heavy Haulage Deviation. More than 800 heavy vehicles are still travelling through the middle of town each day, past our schools, shops and cafés. After years of promises and election commitments, the community deserves a clear answer on when this project will actually be funded and built.
I also raised the increasingly dangerous Greenlands Road and Forrest Highway intersection. There have been multiple crashes in the area over the past few weeks, including a tragic loss of life. The Minister confirmed Main Roads is urgently inspecting the intersection, but we need a longer-term solution that recognises the growth occurring around Pinjarra, West Pinjarra and South Yunderup.
For South Yunderup and Austin Lakes, I again raised the condition of the ageing South Yunderup bridge, the community’s only formal access. With growing schools, new housing and increasing traffic, replacing this bridge and improving safe access to Forrest Highway cannot simply be pushed into the future.
These projects are all connected. Our population is growing; freight movements are increasing and the pressure on our roads is only getting greater.
I will keep raising these issues in Parliament and pushing for the investment and clear timelines our community needs.

Great to join Urs Jordi, ARYZTA Chairman, Sean Masterson, Regional MD ARYZTA APAC, key stakeholders, partners and suppliers for the opening of ARYZTA’s first Western Australian bakery at the Peel Business Park.
With an investment of over A$66 million, the new state-of-the-art facility is now operational and is expected to generate between 110 and 130 local jobs, manufacturing products for Australia’s quick service restaurant sector.
It is an impressive operation, with capacity of up to 40,000 buns an hour.
The investment will also remove an estimated 1.7 million food miles from ARYZTA’s supply chain by reducing the need to transport products from its NSW and Victorian facilities, while supporting greater use of high-quality local wheat and other raw materials from Western Australia.
It is particularly pleasing to see the original vision for the Peel Business Park now taking shape by creating an ecosystem for food innovation, advanced manufacturing and value-adding that attracts major investment and creates new opportunities for the Shire of Murray and the wider Peel region.
Congratulations to the ARYZTA team, Shire of Murray, Peel Development Commission, DevelopmentWA and everyone involved over the many years in bringing this significant project to life.
This is another great example of global investment, local capability and advanced food manufacturing all coming together right here in regional WA.

I appreciated the opportunity to visit the Yarloop Workshops with members of the Workshops Committee, the Shire of Harvey CEO and Shire Staff to talk about the future of this incredibly important heritage site.
A huge amount of work has gone into planning and rebuilding the Workshops and precinct following the devastation of the 2016 bushfires.
It was a valuable opportunity to learn more about the progress of the project, walk through the site together and encourage open discussion about the practical steps and stages needed to bring the Workshops back to life.
There is a lot of passion for this important place, and it was good to see everyone focused on finishing the work needed to reopen the site, provide access as soon as practical and ensure it has a sustainable future.
I look forward to seeing the Workshops once again open to the public, active and welcoming visitors.

Great to spend some time at Fairbridge College talking with students involved in the Big Picture Learning program, which gives students the opportunity to explore subjects that interest them.
For one student, that topic is how voting works and what it takes to run a campaign, before putting those ideas into practice through the student leader election.
I really enjoyed sharing some of my own experiences and talking about how candidates can connect, communicate ideas, seek feedback and, most importantly, listen to those they hope to represent.
Thanks for the invitation, and to the students for the great questions and engaging discussion. Best of luck to all the students taking part in the election campaigns.

There has been plenty written and said about the Secret Harbour by-election, and it seems everyone is an expert.

But on the ground, campaigns are much simpler: you turn up, talk to people and listen.

Ryan Robertson - Liberal for Secret Harbour, our volunteers and the State Liberal team are continuing to stay focused, putting in the ground work to present a credible alternative that will represent the local community in parliament and focus on the issues that matter.

Great to attend the Australia India Business Council WA Executive Breakfast at Infosys in Perth and catch up with the past president of the India Society of WA, Surya Ambati.

There was a valuable discussion on strengthening trade between WA and India and the opportunities in innovation, technology, manufacturing and investment.

India is an increasingly important partner for WA, with growing opportunities to connect our businesses, researchers and innovators.

Thanks to Chevonne and the team at the Brunswick Junction Community Resource Centre for the warm welcome.
It was great to meet with the committee and hear more about the important work the Centre does for the local community, and to discuss ideas, opportunities and projects.
Community Resource Centres play a really important role in regional towns, providing services, support and inviting spaces for people of all ages to connect.
