As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and passion to support our community. Your contribution makes a meaningful difference each and every day.

Throughout the week, we’ve had the privilege of highlighting some of our incredible volunteers, but this is only a small glimpse into the many people who help make our organisation so special. While we haven’t been able to showcase everyone, please know that every volunteer is valued and appreciated.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate and recognise our volunteers throughout the year.

One of the ways we celebrated our volunteers during National Volunteer Week was by hosting morning teas at each of our services. Pictured are gifts at our Burpengary service and a morning tea generously donated each day this week by Kenilworth Country Bakery in Samford - the donuts were absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all!

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer and making a positive impact in the community, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to learn more about getting involved.

💛 It’s National Volunteer Week, a chance to acknowledge the quiet, everyday moments of care that support our community.

Home-delivered meals aren’t just about food. Through Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region, they represent connection, dignity, and ensuring people can remain healthy, independent, and supported at home.

But what truly brings this service to life is our volunteers, like Noella and Stuart.

Every day, volunteers do more than deliver meals - they deliver genuine human connection.

A knock at the door becomes a friendly hello.
A meal handover becomes a quick chat.
And sometimes, that moment is the most meaningful part of someone’s day.

A special thank you goes to Noella and Stuart, regular weekly volunteers, for the kindness they bring to every visit. Their friendly chats and warm smiles help brighten clients’ days and turn a simple meal delivery into a moment of connection and care.

Noella and Stuart share that volunteering “Is an opportunity to meet like-minded volunteers and to put a smile on the face of a meal recipient (and pat dogs).” They also note that volunteering with Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region means, “People are able to receive good food at a reasonable price and have a friendly chat.”

For many clients, that daily knock isn’t just about receiving a meal, it’s reassurance, routine, and the feeling that someone cares.

Thank you to Noella, Stuart, and every volunteer across our service who makes a meaningful difference in the community.

There’s something really fun about volunteering alongside friends 💛🚗

Delivering meals to community members isn’t just about dropping off food, it’s sharing smiles, having little chats, and making someone’s day a bit brighter. Doing it with mates makes it even better because you’re helping your community and making memories together.

Marg and Judy are a perfect example of this. These two friends volunteer together regularly, and they bring so much fun, conversation, and connection to each time they attend. Their friendship adds a warm, uplifting energy to the experience, and it’s clear how much they enjoy doing it side by side. For them, it’s also about the relationships they build, not just with each other, but with the people they meet along the way.

When asked about why they continue to volunteer, their reflections really capture what it means to them:

“Volunteering at Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region means helping people that can’t get out and about, and who can’t cook their own meals. I also enjoy working with like-minded people.”
-Marg

Judy also noted, “Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose. I enjoy helping out people who have difficulties with either preparing their own meals or getting out to shop. I also enjoy chatting and connecting with older people in the community.”

Good vibes, good people, and a reminder that small acts of kindness really do matter 🫶

A big thank you to Marg and Judy for sharing their time and energy, and for the incredible difference they make in the community. 💛

Volunteering over a long period of time often leads to deep personal growth and a strong sense of purpose. When people consistently give their time and energy to causes they care about, they don’t just support a community, they become part of its foundation. Albert has become an important part of the Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region family through his many years of dedicated service.

Albert has exemplified this kind of dedication since 2002 through his long-term volunteering with Meals on Wheels. His ongoing commitment reflects not only reliability but a genuine love for his community and the people he serves. Over more than two decades, he has formed lasting relationships and witnessed the long-term impact of consistent care.

As Albert shared when asked, “What does volunteering at Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region mean to you? ‘Watching people being pleased when they receive their food, and they always look forward to seeing us. There is a gentleman who was one of the first people I delivered to, 23 years ago, and he is still receiving meals to this day.’”

Thank you, Albert, for your many years of dedicated service, compassion, kindness, and unwavering commitment to your community. Your generosity and genuine care have touched the lives of so many people, and your dedication continues to inspire everyone around you.
