Paddock to Plate Success!
Certificate I in Agriculture – Education Support Students

Our Agriculture Education Support students have proudly completed their Potato Paddock to Plate project at the Kiara College Farm, and what an amazing journey it has been!
Earlier last term, students planted their own potatoes, taking full responsibility for monitoring plant growth, fertilising and keeping the paddock weed-free. Their hard work paid off with a fantastic harvest!

The learning continued in the Home Economics kitchen, where students prepared a delicious variety of potato-based dishes, including:
• Potato curry
• Hash browns
• Creamy mashed potato
• Crispy chips
• Roast potatoes
The results were outstanding, enjoyed by both students and staff! A couple of class representatives plated up and personally delivered the end product to the Principal and Front Office staff.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to all students involved for your teamwork, practical skills and pride in your work. And a special thank you to the wonderful staff from each school for your guidance and support throughout this project.

SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE, IT'S TIME TO ENROL!

Every year Dental Health Services (DHS) offers parents and carers the chance to register their kids for free dental care at the School Dental Service (SDS). The offer is open to every student from the year they turn 5 until their 17th birthday and includes check-ups, fillings and simple extractions.

Your child will soon bring home an envelope with an enrolment form, Frequently Asked Questions, and a reply-paid envelope from DHS. Just fill in the enrolment form, pop it in the reply-paid envelope, and put it in the nearest post box.

Once we receive your form at DHS our team will register your child and arrange for you to receive an appointment in the mail.

Dear Durham Road School Families,

We would like to remind you that your child is eligible for the WA Student Assistance Payment, provided by the WA Government to support families with school-related costs.

Eligible families will receive:
• $150 for Kindergarten and primary school students, or
• $250 for secondary school students

The claim deadline of Friday 4 July is fast approaching, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Dear Parents,

Yesterday, the Premier, Hon Roger Cook MLA, and the Minister for Education, Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA, announced the WA Student Assistance Payment.

This State Government initiative offers a cost-of-living payment for every student in Western Australia to provide financial relief and assist families with their children’s schooling.

All Western Australian school students including Durham Road School (Kindergarten to Year 12) currently enrolled in a public school, registered non-government school, or home-schooled, with a valid WA student number (WASN) are eligible to claim this payment from Monday 15 April 2024.

We know that many families in our school communities are feeling cost-of-living pressures. This payment will assist with out-of-pocket school expenses for our students providing the support they need to focus on learning.

The Premier and Minister have written a letter to all parents and carers outlining the intent of this payment and recognising the cost-pressures that many families are experiencing.

Last Thursday night we hosted our annual Durham Road School Art Exhibition!

We are continuously blown away by the dedication and talent of our students. We would like to thank our staff for their generosity and hard work, without them nights like this would not be possible. Thank you also to all the parents and carers who joined us to celebrate.
