🌼 Discover the wildflowers at Foxes Lair!

If you’re hunting wildflowers, Foxes Lair, near Narrogin, is a fantastic spring destination, with more than 240 species of wildflowers recorded across the reserve. From August to November, the trails come alive with colour.

Orchid enthusiasts should keep their eyes peeled for orchids including white spiders, little pink fairies, jugs, shells, greenhoods and dragon orchids. Beyond the orchids, look for dryandras, hakeas, grevilleas, peas, leschenaultia and dampiera adding splashes of colour to the bush.

With a network of easy to moderate trails winding through jarrah, marri, wandoo, sheoak and mallet woodlands, there’s plenty to discover as the seasons change:

🚶Breakaway Trail – 300m – an easy stroll through lateritic gravelly soils to a breakaway with views across the Narrogin Valley.

🚶🏻‍♀️Banksia Trail – 1.9km – an easy loop through jarrah-marri-wandoo woodland and gravelly country, with an incredible diversity of wildflowers. Keep an eye out for dryandras, hakeas, grevilleas and other flowering plants, as well as the remains of old workers’ cottages dating from the 1920s.

🚶🏿Granite Trail – 1.6km – a short circuit passing the Narrogin Arboretum, historic r***e range remnants and rocky outcrops, with impressive boulders near the picnic area.

🚶🏼‍♀️Valley Loop – 1.4km – a gentle descent into a shady sheoak valley and one of the best spots for orchids.

🚶🏾Claypit Circuit – 1.9km – a moderate loop with hills, stairs and uneven sections, offering a glimpse of Narrogin and the chance to find wildflowers not seen elsewhere in Foxes Lair.

🌸 Whether its wildflower wander or a longer exploration of the reserve, Foxes Lair is a little Wheatbelt gem worth slowing down for.

💙 Four trails. One spectacular reef. Countless marine encounters. Paddle into Ningaloo’s underwater world!

Explore the world-renowned Ningaloo Reef, where you paddle straight from the beach across the reef, tie up at designated moorings and jump in for a snorkel among colourful coral and marine life. The Ningaloo Marine Park is home to an extraordinary diversity of marine species, including turtles, manta rays, dolphins, dugongs, and seemingly endless species of fish.

🐟 Coral Bay Kayak Trail – 5 km
With four snorkelling sites between 300 metres and 1.8 km from shore, this trail explores the Maud Sanctuary Zone. Look beneath the clear, shallow water for turtles, resident manta rays, colourful reef fish and vibrant coral.

🐠 Tantabiddi Sanctuary Zone Kayak Trail – 3 km
Paddle around 1.4 km from the boat ramp to two kayak moorings, where the reef can be explored by snorkel. The sites feature coral gardens and shallow reef habitat, with depths of up to 3.5 metres. Expect plenty of reef fish.

🐋 Bundegi Sanctuary Zone Kayak Trail – 7.5 km
The only kayak trail on the Exmouth Gulf side of the Cape, this trail offers the chance to combine reef snorkelling with wildlife watching from the kayak. You may be lucky enough to even see Humpback whales here, particularly during August and September.

🪸 Osprey Sanctuary Zone Kayak Trail – 3.2 km
Paddle across to the inside of the reef and follow the trail to two kayak moorings. Beneath the kayak, the protected reef is home to coral bombies, numerous fish species, turtles and rays.

Before heading out, check the tides, weather and local conditions, and remember that marine wildlife should always be observed respectfully and from a safe distance.

See Serpentine Jarrahdale from the saddle.🐴

Jarrahdale is home to two fantastic horse-friendly trails, giving riders the chance to explore the forested landscape just outside Perth.

Choose the Whim Trail, an easy 5km loop starting from Jarrahdale Oval, or plan a longer ride on the Jinker Trail, a 20km moderate route suited to a half-day outing.
With horse-rider friendly facilities already available at the trailhead and further upgrades planned for the Jarrahdale RV Park, Serpentine Jarrahdale is continuing to build its reputation as a welcoming destination for riders.

💛 Discover one of the Kimberley's most remarkable natural wonders at Tunnel Creek (Dimalurru) – a walk unlike any other in Western Australia!

This 2km return trail takes you through a spectacular natural tunnel carved by fast-flowing wet season waters, leading beneath the ancient limestone walls of the Napier Range. Bring a torch, expect to wade or swim through cold water, and keep an eye out for the cave's fascinating residents, including freshwater crocodiles and several species of bats 🐊

The geology here is extraordinary. Around 350 million years ago, this landscape lay beneath a tropical sea, where a massive coral reef flourished. Today, the Napier Range preserves one of the world's best examples of an ancient Devonian reef system, with soaring limestone walls, impressive stalactites and a cathedral-like cavern shaped over millions of years by flowing water.

Tunnel Creek is also a place of deep cultural and historical significance. It was an important refuge for Bunuba resistance leader Jandamarra, who used the cave as a hideout during his resistance against European settlement in the late 1800s. His story remains an important part of the Kimberley's rich Aboriginal history.

Whether you're fascinated by geology, history or simply looking for an unforgettable adventure, Tunnel Creek is a must-visit destination in the Kimberley.

📍 Tip: Visit during the dry season, wear sturdy shoes that can get wet, bring a torch, and allow time to appreciate both the incredible natural formations and the cultural significance of this special place.

🥾 Merredin Peak – where granite, wildflowers and history meet

Just on the outskirts of Merredin town, the Merredin Peak Trail is a great place for discovering the natural and cultural history of the Central Wheatbelt. This is a 1.8km Class 3 walk across the granite outcrop, with panoramic views over the Merredin township and the surrounding bushland. The trail is also dog friendly! 🐕

Along the way, check out the impressive water catchment system built in the 1890s, where rainwater runoff was captured by stone walls and channels constructed around the Peak and directed into the Railway Dam. Water from the dam was pumped to the top of the peak heritage-listed railway water tower before being gravity-fed back down to supply steam locomotives travelling east towards the Goldfields 🚂

🏥 From the top of the peak there are views towards the remains of the 2/1 Australian General Hospital, a World War II Army hospital complex established in 1942. The hospital was relocated from Tobruk and its surviving concrete foundations, drainage features and other remnants can still be found among the regenerating bushland near the base of the Peak.

Keep a lookout for wildflowers, including spider and donkey orchids, as well as acacias, eucalypts, hakeas, grevilleas and everlastings. August to November is considered the best time to visit Merredin Peak for wildflowers 🌸

With granite landscapes, wildflowers, sweeping Wheatbelt views and layers of railway, exploration and wartime history, Merredin Peak is a short trail with plenty to discover.

Follow the Swan River foreshore between Fremantle Traffic Bridge and Canning Bridge, enjoying stunning city skyline views while discovering the Riverpark's rich natural, cultural and Noongar heritage.

🌿 Zamia Trail – Bold Park | 5.1kms
Explore one of Perth's favourite urban bushwalks, with sweeping coastal and city views, and abundant native flora and fauna.

🌉 Law Walk Loop – Kings Park | 3.7kms
Experience Kings Park's beautiful bushland, with wildflowers in bloom August – September, and breathtaking views over the Swan River and Perth city.

🥾 If you're looking for a rewarding bushwalk this late winter and early spring, the Yued Ponar Trail in Lesueur National Park is one to add to your list.

This challenging 6km loop trail begins at the Cockleshell Gully picnic area and winds through one of WA’s most botanically significant landscapes. Along the way you'll wander through species-rich kwongan heath, pockets of Wandoo woodland, winding creek lines and climb several short, steep hills before reaching the summit of Mt Peron. Your reward? Spectacular panoramic views across Lesueur National Park.

🌼 Late winter and early spring transform the park into a vibrant wildflower wonderland. With more than 900 plant species—including over 100 found nowhere else on earth—Lesueur National Park is recognised as a global biodiversity hotspot. Keep an eye out for colourful displays of acacias, hibbertias, leschenaultias, melaleucas, orchids and many other native wildflowers carpeting the landscape.

As you make your way along the trail, take time to enjoy the interpretive signs that share the story of the six Yued Noongar seasons, adding a rich cultural connection to this unforgettable walk. Remember to stay on the marked trail and use the boot cleaning stations to help protect this unique environment from dieback.

🌳✨ Celebrate National Tree Day on 26 July by standing among WA's forest giants.

There's something truly humbling about walking beneath trees that have watched centuries pass. This National Tree Day, take a moment to reconnect with nature on one of these giant tree trails.

🌲 Gloucester Tree Walk – stroll from the centre of Pemberton into towering karri forest and meet The Gloucester Tree: a giant karri tree (Eucalyptus diversicolor) that has recently been reopened for visitors to enjoy. Crane your neck to marvel at this giant from the ground or climb 37m to the lookout for a dizzying bird's-eye view of the surrounding forest.

🌳 King Jarrah, Manjimup – follow an easy 600m trail to meet an ancient Jarrah tree (Eucalyptus marginata). At a monumental 45m tall and an estimated 500 years old it is one of the largest and oldest jarrah trees in the world.

🍃 Giant Tingle Tree Loop, Walpole – wander through the majestic tingle tree forest and gaze at the giant Red Tingle trees (Eucalyptus jacksonii) - the largest of the three tingle tree varieties only found in this tiny patch of WA. Enjoy walking through their enormous hollowed-out buttress trunks.
