Our school established the Moort Waabiny to establish a strong connection between school, The Moort Waabiny is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.

Aboriginal Families as First Educators Program supports families with Aboriginal children from birth to 4 years old in their roles as their child’s first te

acher. Our school established the Moort Waabiny to establish a strong connection between school, local community and families from the child's early years. The Moort Waabiny is a family based learning environment where parents or care givers come together with their child to experience the joy of learning and playing in a culturally supportive environment. Moort Waabiny experience will result in a strong family school link where families know the school wishes to support the child and family. The stronger links will improve enjoyment of the school experience, improved school attendance, school readiness and engagement. Currently our centre is staffed by:

* An Aboriginal Family Liaison Officer, who supports families through home visits and at the centre

* An Aboriginal Facilitator who leads the in centre activites for the parent and care giver with the child. Our faciliator is skilled in the Abecedarian Approach Australia (3A) which includes three elements. Conversational Reading, Learning Games and Enriched Caregiving. The 3A provides children with a solid foundation for their future learning. The children will continue their learning journey when 4 years old by joining our Kindergarten program. Join us tomorrow, Monday 15 June, from 9:30am – 11:00am for a FREE Vaccination Pop-Up Clinic at Moort Waabiny Aboriginal Playgroup.

Families will have access to:

Come along for a fun morning of playgroup, connection and learning, while taking the opportunity to keep your n***y ones healthy and strong in a safe, familiar and welcoming environment for both you and your child.

Did you know when you regularly attend Moort Waabiny Aboriginal Playgroup, we provide families with a free incursion or excursion experience each term? 🌿✨

At the end of Term 1, we welcomed Eco Action, who brought along a wide variety of fascinating mini-beasts for us to observe and interact with 🐛🕷️🐌. As you can see, our confident koolangkas had no worries getting up close and personal with these little creatures, so deadly to watch!

We can’t wait to see you join us in Term 2 as we dive into all things ocean 🌊🐠.

So if you’re looking for a culturally safe, welcoming, and engaging space for your 0–4 year old, come along for a coffee and a yarn with other families and be part of the fun. ☕

If you’ve ever wondered what a typical day at Moort Waabiny Aboriginal Playgroup looks like...

Our days are filled with laughter, learning, and connection. This term, our n***y ones have been busy exploring the wonderful world of mini-beasts 🐞🕷️ discovering, observing, and letting their curiosity lead the way.

We love getting hands-on in the kitchen too! Together we’ve been cooking up delicious creations like homemade pizzas 🍕 and bravely exploring the tastes of new vegetables 🥕🥦

There’s always plenty of sensory play, where our children dive into textures, colours, and creativity, often creating their own mini masterpieces to take home. We’ve also been working together on a special collaborative Harmony Week art project, celebrating culture, belonging, and community.

As the term starts to come to an end, we’re excited for some very special events 🎉 including:

📚 An excursion to Ruth Falkner Library for Noongar Story Time
🐝 A fun and interactive mini-beast incursion with Eco Action
🐰 An Easter egg hunt
🥪 A shared lunch with our playgroup families
