One from the archives — this bobtail was caught in Byford. 🦎

One of the better signs that spring is properly getting underway around Perth is seeing the bobtails starting to get about again.

After spending much of the colder months tucked away, spring brings more movement as they look for warmth, food and mates.

That means you’ll start seeing more of them crossing roads, wandering through gardens and turning up in some pretty inconvenient spots.

They can put on a good show with the open mouth and blue tongue when they feel threatened, but the best thing you can usually do is give them some space and let them continue on their way.

Have you spotted your first bobtail of spring yet? If so, what suburb?

Not every snake call-out ends with a capture. 🐍

We were called out to a property in Banjup this afternoon after a snake was spotted around the chicken coop but by the time I arrived it had moved on and unfortunately couldn’t be located.

Snakes can disappear into cover incredibly quickly, so if you do spot one around your property, keep a safe distance and, where possible, keep eyes on exactly where it goes without approaching or trying to interfere with it.

Just a heads-up for anyone living around Banjup and the Bartram road area to keep an extra eye out around the yard over the next little while.

2,500 followers. Thank you. 🐍

It’s pretty unreal seeing this page reach 2,500 people.

What started as a place to share a few call-outs, local reptiles and a bit of what happens behind the scenes has grown into a genuinely supportive little community, and I really appreciate everyone who has chosen to follow along.

Whether you’ve been here for years or only found the page recently, every follow, comment, share, recommendation and message has helped South-West Reptile Removals grow into what it is today.

One of the best parts has been seeing how many people genuinely enjoy learning about the reptiles we share our homes and suburbs with, following the call-outs, and getting involved in the conversations along the way.

There’s plenty more to come as we head further into the season, and I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you.

Thank you for being part of the journey and for supporting a local WA business. It genuinely means a lot.

Here’s to the next milestone. 🐍

🐍 WEST PINJARRA — SNAKE SIGHTING

Just a heads-up for anyone around the Marsh Road area in West Pinjarra.

An apparent dugite has been sighted in the area today, so it’s worth keeping an extra eye out around yards, sheds, paddocks and anywhere with plenty of cover.

If you do come across a snake, keep a safe distance, bring pets and kids inside where possible, and try to maintain sight of where it goes without approaching or interfering with it.

If you’re around West Pinjarra or the surrounding Peel area, feel free to like and follow our page for local reptile sightings, call-outs and updates throughout the season — and keep our number handy just in case.

Sometimes keeping eyes on a snake doesn’t mean keeping eyes on the ground. 👀🐍

This tiger snake was caught from a property in Serpentine after the homeowner spotted it while clearing some overgrown grass in one of the paddocks on the ride-on mower.

Rather than making a run for it, the snake found itself a pretty decent hiding spot inside this hollow tree.

The homeowner did exactly the right thing and gave us a call while keeping an eye on the tree from a safe distance.

While we were on the way over, the tiger snake would occasionally poke its head back out to check what was happening, but with the homeowner still sitting on the ride-on nearby, it stayed put in its safe space rather than making a break for the surrounding cover.

That made things fairly straightforward once I arrived. After spotting where it was sitting, it was easy enough to encourage out of the hollow — although safe to say it wasn’t overly impressed about being evicted from the hiding spot it had chosen. 😅

Safely captured and relocated away from the property.

Not every reptile call-out ends up being a snake. 😅

This bobtail turned up in a backyard in Canning Vale today. The homeowners originally thought they had a snake on their hands, but after keeping an eye on it from a distance they quickly realised it was a bobtail instead.

They still opted to have it removed for the little bloke’s safety, rather than risk it getting into trouble around the property.

It also felt a little strange being back behind the camera and actually filming a call-out again. These days it’s usually easier to grab a quick photo and be on my way — bobtails definitely make the video side of things a bit easier than the usual snakes. 😅

A nice change of pace from the snakes, and another local reptile safely dealt with.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures out there today. 💙

Especially the ones who somehow became the household’s designated spider catcher, strange-noise investigator, shed checker and the person everyone sends outside when somebody says…

“There’s something moving near the back door.” 😂🐍

Hope you all get a good one today — preferably with no unexpected reptile visitors.

Question for the dads — are you the designated wildlife remover in your household? 😂

First snake call-out of the season — and this little dugite had picked a fairly unusual hiding spot. 🐍

This sub-adult dugite turned up in a backyard in Kensington and was last seen disappearing underneath an outdoor TV.

The homeowners did a great job keeping a safe distance while keeping an eye on the area it had disappeared into. That made things nice and straightforward when I arrived, with the snake quickly located, safely captured and relocated away from the property.

It’s a good reminder that if you do spot a snake, keeping sight of where it goes — without approaching or trying to interfere with it — can make a huge difference when your catcher arrives.

With the first call-out now on the board, snake activity is starting to pick up again around Perth.

Got a call for this Dugite from a lovely family’s home about a brown snake that had came under the fence into the backyard that had curled up under the BBQ. They kept pets and kids inside, kept eyes on the area until I arrived and safely and quickly tubed this Dugite.

Have you seen any snakes recently?

Stay safe over this busy season of the year and I’ll see you all hopefully next year if not before depending on reptile movement.
