📚✨ Curious about how spelling is taught at Willandra Primary School? ✨📚

We invite all parents and carers to join us for our Word Origins Parent Information Session next Thursday, Week 11!

Word Origins is an evidence-informed spelling and word-study program designed for students in Years 3 to 6.

During this session, a Guest Speaker from DSF, will unpack how students learn to understand the structure, meaning and history of words, helping them become more confident spellers, readers and writers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to:
✅ Learn more about the program your child is using at school
✅ Understand how spelling instruction has evolved
✅ Gain practical strategies to support your child at home

Whether you're looking for ways to support your child's literacy development or simply want to learn more about what happens in the classroom, we'd love to see you there!

🎬🍿 GOOD STANDING MOVIE DAY IS NEXT WEDNESDAY! 🍿🎬

At Willandra Primary School, we love celebrating students who consistently demonstrate our school expectations and make positive choices each day.

On Wednesday 1st July, students who have maintained Good Standing will be invited to enjoy a special age-appropriate movie as a reward for their efforts. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the students who live our values and contribute positively to our school community.

💙 Not quite there yet? There is still time! We encourage all students to continue making positive choices, showing respect, and working hard to maintain their Good Standing. Every day is a new opportunity to demonstrate our school values and earn the chance to be part of this exciting celebration.

🌭🌿 Bangers and Branches 🌿🌭

Our dads and children braved the chilly weather to join us for our latest Fathering Project event, Bangers and Branches.

Creativity was on full display as families transformed sticks, pipe cleaners and a rainbow of colours into amazing creations. We saw stick figures, teepees, bows and arrows, insects, fantastical creatures and so much more! 🎨✨

After a fun-filled session of creating and connecting, everyone enjoyed a delicious sausage sizzle together. 🌭😊

A big thank you to all the dads and children who came along and made the event such a success. Keep an eye out for our exciting Term 3 Fathering Project event—we can't wait to see you there! 👨‍👧‍👦💙

In Week 11, Willandra Primary School will proudly celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 and this year's milestone theme, "50 Years of Deadly".
We look forward to coming together at our NAIDOC assembly to honour and celebrate the strength, resilience, achievements and rich cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the past 50 years.🖤💛❤️

🏆⚽🏐🏉 Eagles Cup Action at Willandra! 🏉🏐⚽

What a fantastic afternoon of sport as Willandra PS proudly hosted the Eagles Cup competition against Grovelands PS!

Our students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, determination and school pride as they competed in soccer, football and netball. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, trying their best and representing our school with such enthusiasm and respect.

A big thanks to Mr Tim Price and the PE Specialist teachers from the other competing schools for organising the competition 🌟

🔢✨ Learning, friendship and fun in Koomal 2A! ✨🔢

This week, our Kindy children have been busy making collections and exploring the dot patterns on dice.

As they sorted, counted and compared their collections, they were developing important early mathematics skills. Recognising dot patterns helps children identify numbers such as 5 and 6 without needing to count every dot, strengthening their number sense and building confidence with numbers.

We also mixed up our partner groups, encouraging children to work with classmates they don't usually play with. It was wonderful to see new friendships forming as children shared ideas, solved problems together and supported one another in completing tasks.

A fantastic week of maths learning, teamwork and friendship building in Koomal 2A!

🏛️ Year 6 Excursion to Parliament House 🏛️

This week our Year 6 students enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to Parliament House and the Electoral Commission Education Centre.

During the visit, students learned about Australia's preferential voting system and participated in a fun mock election, voting for their favourite football teams...GO FREO 💜⚓️😁

We are incredibly proud of all the students who attended. Congratulations to all students for maintaining their Good Standing and making the most of this valuable learning experience. Well done, Year 6! 👏

🌟 This week, our Year 3, 4 and 5 students participated in a valuable Bully Zero workshop, where they explored the power of positive thinking, resilience, and developing a growth mindset.

Students learned strategies to build respectful relationships, respond positively to challenges, and help create a safe and inclusive school environment.

These important skills align with our school message to TED - Treat Everyone Decently. These skill are not only important at school, but also will equip students with the tools they can carry with them throughout their lives. 🌟💙
