It’s good to know our friends in the SES stand ready for call outs to incidents caused by heavy rain and flash flooding. It’s important to take care and follow their advice below to minimise call outs and keep you and yours safe.

NSW SES has responded to more than 500 incidents as widespread rainfall and thunderstorms impact northern and eastern parts of the state. 🌧️

Flood rescue operators, along with partner emergency service personnel, have completed seven flood rescues across the Central Coast and Mid North Coast. The majority have involved cars that became trapped in floodwater as flash flooding inundated roads quickly.

🚘❗Steer clear of floodwater. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.

Heavy rainfall is forecast to continue for parts of the Hunter, Mid North Coast and adjacent districts this afternoon, before easing later today.

📲 Stay across the latest warnings and advice by downloading the Hazards Near Me app and setting up a watch zone for your local area.

☎️ If you need assistance during storms or floods, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).

Heavier rain over next few days. Good advice here from the SES. Stay safe friends. Slow down on these wet, slippery roads and beware of water hazards and flash flooding.

Communities in Northeastern NSW should monitor conditions as flash flooding and minor river rises are possible.

Widespread rainfall is forecast across the state today, before shifting to eastern areas, particularly the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, during the first half of Tuesday. Moderate rainfall totals of 40-70mm are likely, with locally heavy falls of 100-150mm possible with slow-moving thunderstorms.

⚠️ With the predicted rainfall, minor flooding is possible across Northeastern catchments including the Richmond, Wilsons, Orara, Bellinger and Nambucca Rivers and Coffs Creek.

NSW SES has issued four advice-level warnings for people in Bellingen, Coutts Crossing, Coffs Harbour, Thora and surrounds to stay informed.

🚘 Flash flooding can occur quickly and without much warning. Steer clear of floodwaters – if you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.

📲 Download the Hazards Near Me app to stay across the latest information and warnings and set up a watch zone so you are notified with local warnings.

If you need assistance during storms of floods, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call triple zero (000).

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

It’s good to get the daily showers and take an opportunity between them to do a pile burn. Still, please do so safely with a hose nearby, plus warn your neighbours and do the online RFS notification 24 hrs or more ahead.

Although we’ve seen some rain in recent days, conditions remain dry, particularly in the western parts of the state. Firefighters have been kept busy responding to a number of fires, several of which were caused by escaped burns.

While the Bush Fire Danger Period is no longer in place for all LGAs across NSW, we urge residents and land managers to check conditions before lighting a burn and remember that you are required to notify the RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours before burning.

To notify the of your intention to burn, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

ȚIme to think about fire safety and smoke alarms. Chilly nights ahead. ❄️❄️

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Ok you don’t need a permit for a hazard reduction or pile burn right now, but you still need to:

- be well-prepared, sensible, considerate

- have plenty of water on hand to stop it getting away and douse the embers when finished.

- notify neighbours and submit a burn notification to RFS using this simple online form https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp?id=guardian_cat_item&sys_id=9e19819bc361f1d04a9cdc31150131ad

Planning a burn on your property? 🚨🔥

You are required to notify NSW RFS and your neighbours 24hrs before you light up. Recent days and weeks have seen multiple burns escape, putting properties and lives at risk right across the mid coast.

Do the right thing — notify before you burn:

Don’t be the fire risk in your community.

Here’s a short video on how to undertake a pile burn safely on your property. The link below goes to the online form you’re required to submit to the NSW RFS ahead of your pile burn, after giving at least 24 hours notice to your neighbours. Advance notice alerts people nearby with respiratory conditions to close windows etc, and avoids causing unnecessary concern and brigade call outs. https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp?id=guardian_cat_item&sys_id=9e19819bc361f1d04a9cdc31150131ad&fbclid=IwdGRjcAQ6bRBleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xNzM4NDc2NDI2NzAzNzAAAR6Vo_MIXdUrZlNscdEqHABpijLTcAw_WydGZIpaXu5DFmZ0yzFZ2Z6h6ZDL0A_aem_GH8zBeBQ3G522T4SV539cw

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW including Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

For more information on the bush fire danger period and fire permits, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP
