🐍🦎 Should you require assistance give Mark a call 🐍🦎
Snakes are one critter I don't do, so please call the professionals to relocate any Snake that needs removing.

Here we are again. Another season is upon us. With predictions of a dry spring and hot summer we are anticipating a busier than usual season this year. With a few call outs already and more to follow we are gearing up to respond as quickly as possible to your calls and needs whenever our reptile friends come and visit. We have been invited for an interview tomorrow morning on ABC radio at 0930 so feel free to tune in and have a listen. Please remember do not try and interact with snakes and lizards, give us a call and we will give you a hand.

Good afternoon everyone,
Dan and I have both had surgery this week and would just like everyone to be patient with us while we recover.
If you ring , PLEASE leave a message or text.
It's hard to feed joeys and answer the phone at the same time at the moment.

We have a couple of amazing friends who are helping us to feed especially the joeys, and Barb has been really busy doing rescues and transport for us.

We will do our best to organise help as soon as possible or advise you to take the animal to the vets for assessment (it doesn't cost you anything for wildlife)

Wow.. looks like a great time was had.
Thankyou all for supporting our wildlife shelter. It's great to see the message getting out of how to check pouches, driving at night and who to call if you should come across any wildlife needing help.
Well done to you all
Unfortunately I couldn't be there as I had an appointment with the vets at the same time

Kind regards Tan 💞 🦘🐨🦆🦜🦎🦉🦅🐢

Good evening everyone,
Very busy week for us here.
Here's a few pictures of the Fur babies in care.

Miss Ellie-Mae is doing really great and is really starting to show that "Wallaby " cheekiness

Mr Robbie is getting a bit frustrated with having his leg bandaged due to having 2 breaks in his leg.

Mr Usher has come along way. He's still got the head shakes from a possible brain bleed, but he's heaps better. He's such a good big brother to our 2 new girls. Giving them kisses.

Mr Robbie and Mr Usher will be seeing Dr Mark on Monday for assessments. Fingers crossed Robbie's leg is mending well.

Little Miss W (haven't named her yet) arrived late last night from Wodonga. Thankyou Jess for rescuing and Transporting her all the way here.
It was a long night as she cried out for her Mumma, lots of cuddles and reassurances.

Miss Vienna arrived at Warby Street Veterinary Hospital, thankyou to Paul for stopping and checking a pouch. She's been here 2 nights and is settling in quite well.

We also have 2 Brushtail Possum joey's that have arrived as well.

If you would like to help support our wildlife shelter you can do so by depositing into our dedicated wildlife account.

What It Costs to Care

They call us carers.
First responders.
Volunteers.

As though those words could ever explain
what it costs to answer the phone.

It costs fuel.
Milk.
Medicine.
Bandages and bedding.
Kilometres on cars already falling apart.
Vet bills we cannot afford
for animals that were never ours
until the moment somebody called.

But money is the cheapest part.

It costs dinners left cold on the table.
Birthdays arrived at late.
Plans cancelled.
Children who learn that Mum might have to leave
when the rescue phone rings.

It costs sleep.

Two a.m. feeds.
Midnight rescues.
Driving dark country roads
looking for eyes in the headlights,
knowing that somewhere ahead
something is hurting.

It costs pieces of your family life
you don’t get to ask for back.

It costs relationships with people
who don’t understand why
“just one animal”
couldn’t wait until morning.

Because we know why.

We have seen what morning can mean.

It costs the memory
of every animal we couldn’t save.

The ones that died in our arms.
The ones we found too late.
The mothers on the roadside
with babies still alive in their pouches.
The tiny bodies we carried home
already knowing how the story would end.

We remember them.

Every single one takes something with them.

And then the next phone call comes.

So we wipe our faces.
Wash the blood from our hands.
Change the bedding.
Warm another bottle.
Start the car.

And go.

People tell us,
“I could never do what you do.”

Sometimes we wonder
how much longer we can either.

Because compassion has a cost.

It is paid in exhaustion.
In missed moments.
In empty bank accounts.
In grief swallowed quietly
because another animal still needs feeding.

It is paid in pieces of ourselves.

Until some days
you reach inside
and wonder how there can possibly
be anything left to give.

And still—

a frightened animal settles against your chest.

A joey takes its first bottle.

An animal you were told wouldn’t survive
takes one more breath,
then another.

A cage door opens
and something you fought for
runs, climbs or flies back
to where it belongs.

And for one beautiful moment
the weight lifts.

That is why we answer.

Not because it doesn’t cost us.

But because somewhere
on the side of a road,
caught in a fence,
or lying beneath a tree,

a life is waiting
for someone to come.

And we know what it costs
to be that someone.

We also know
what it would cost us
to turn away.
