The rezoning of the Bellambi estate has been finalised to enable up to 2,500 new social, affordable and private homes north of Wollongong.

Key highlights include:
🌅 A staged renewal of the estate to replace ageing social housing with an increased number of modern, safe and well-designed social homes.
🏡 A mixed-use community with a minimum of 30 per cent social housing.
🌳 A new local centre and public plaza alongside upgraded open spaces and improved streets.

Bellambi estate’s renewal will deliver improved outcomes for the community while also helping to ease pressure on the local housing market, offering more housing choices in the area.

🏡 New Property Audit sites in the NSW Government’s $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program will unlock opportunities for up to 670 new homes on surplus or underutilised Government-owned land,

A standout theme in this latest tranche of sites is a focus on the Blacktown local government area which is one of the fastest growing in the state. Almost half of the 9 identified sites are located there, with the potential to deliver more than 569 homes.

Key opportunities include a vacant Rooty Hill site that could deliver up to 500 homes, along with smaller, but strategically located, parcels of land in Quakers Hill, and along Sunnyholt Road.

The NSW Government is calling for Registrations of Interest in transforming the former Forest High School site at Frenchs Forest into a vibrant mixed-use town centre, with potential for commercial, retail, education and community uses.

Under the Frenchs Forest 2041 Place Strategy, the site is expected to deliver at least 1,000 new homes, including a minimum 15% affordable housing.

The approximately 6.3 hectare site has a developable footprint of 3.3-hectares zoned for mixed use with a height limit of up to 40 metres and maximum floor space ratio of 2.75:1. The remainder of the site is zoned E2 commercial and RE1 public recreation, ensuring that accessible green open space will be available to current and future residents.

Developers can register their interest through the NSW Government eTendering portal at https://ow.ly/WvMo50Z6XM7 by 4:00pm (AEST) Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

Ultimo TAFE NSW Building C has been revived, one stone at a time 🏛️✨

Heritage Stoneworks has just completed major restoration works on the first purpose-built technological museum in Australia, and one of the first in the world.

To honour the building’s original craftsmanship, the team selected heritage-grade stone from a stockpiled Sydney Basin resource, recovered through a dedicated program to identify and extract suitable stone for restoration projects ⚒️

Using photographic reference material, they also hand-carved native flora and fauna motifs to match the building’s original era designs.

The NSW Government has completed an $800,000 restoration of the historic Upper Castlereagh Public School, preserving one of Sydney’s oldest surviving rural education buildings.

Built in 1878–79, the school is a rare surviving example of 19th‑century public education architecture and is part of a heritage precinct that includes some of Australia’s earliest Wesleyan Methodist church buildings.

The restoration addressed decades of deterioration, with works including structural repairs, roofing and gutter replacements, electrical upgrades, brickwork restoration and internal cleaning and sealing.

Reviving this site protects an important part of Western Sydney’s rural history and strengthens the long-term conservation of NSW heritage assets. The Planning Ministerial Corporation (Office of Strategic Lands), part of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, will now explore leasing and long-term future uses for the site.

🐋 Every winter, the NSW coastline turns into a front row seat to one of nature’s great migrations. Thousands of humpback whales pass by on their journey north along the “Humpback Highway,” often stopping to breach, splash and glide close to shore.

From south to north, Crown land headlands, lookouts and coastal reserves make it easy to join the action, offering free, land‑based vantage points along the coast.

Some of our favourites include Eden, Merimbula’s Short and Long Point Lookouts, Norah Head on the Central Coast, Boat Harbour Headland in Port Stephens, Yamba Lighthouse in the Clarence Valley, and Fingal Head at the NSW-Queensland border.

Our tip: early mornings or late afternoons are best. Look for blows, breaches and tail‑slaps. Binoculars = bonus points 🐋👀

More than 1,000 NSW residents have stepped into rewarding new careers in local government through the Fresh Start Program. 🎉

Nate Stenhouse, an apprentice Arborist with Broken Hill City Council, was the 1,000th recruit employed through the program, demonstrating the growing opportunities available for young people to start their careers close to home.

Across three funding rounds, councils have welcomed 1,138 new starters, including:

👩🏼‍💼 152 cadets,
👩🏽‍🏫 443 trainees
👨‍🔧 543 apprentices.

Each recruit is gaining a nationally accredited qualification while helping councils fill critical skills gaps and strengthen service delivery across NSW.
