Yesterday, our students and staff gathered to acknowledge Sorry Day and recognise Reconciliation Week. Our ACEO, Zoey, led a smoking ceremony to foster a sense of connection to culture and community. Zoey also explained the significance of Sorry Day and spoke with students about the important role we all play in working together for reconciliation.

Students were encouraged to reflect on what it means to belong and be connected to a community, consider their own cultural or family background and what makes it special, and think about how we can support everyone at our school to feel welcome and included. Throughout the week, students are continuing this learning to help develop their understanding of reconciliation and explore the ways they can contribute to building a respectful and inclusive school community.

Together, we continue our journey towards reconciliation by celebrating our diversity and fostering belonging for all.

Today is National Sorry Day.

On this day each year, we reflect on the immeasurable harm done by the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities, which we now refer to as the Stolen Generations.

We acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities, and recommit to playing our part in the process of healing and reconciliation.

After voting on their preferred special day, our students were definitely wacky and a little tacky last Friday! There were many great outfits across the school, from preschoolers right through to our Year 6 students, and plenty of staff got into the spirit by embracing the mismatched look as well. Thank you to all our families for supporting the students as they participated in Wacky Tacky Day.
We look forward to continuing our commitment to student agency and voice, ensuring students develop an understanding in the importance of having input and ownership in their learning.

WE ARE VERY EXCITED!
Para Vista Preschool will be established as an ‘integrated hub’, to be operational from 2030. This means our preschool will evolve to bring more programs and services together so our local community can access the support they need in one place.
As an integrated hub, the preschool offering will change from 15 hours per week to 30 hours per week. Preschool places for 3 and 4-year-old children will be considered through a priority of access process.
The existing preschool will be replaced with a new purpose built integrated hub building.
This is a big and exciting change, and we look forward to working with our local community to bring this to life.
For more information on integrated hubs and preschool for 3-year-olds, visit the Office for Early Childhood Development website.

It was wonderful to welcome so many of our mums and grandmas to our Mothers Day breakfast yesterday. They all enjoyed sharing great food and conversations with their children and other families and finding a heartfelt written message on the wall too. We love that we can play a small part in helping our students to celebrate such special people.
We hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day tomorrow too.

After our Sports Day finished early due to rain at the end of term 1, we were finally able to complete our events on Friday.
Students were in fine voice as they belted out their chants before some very fast students ran the year level sprints. Everyone then participated in a couple of fun rounds of tunnel ball, with the encouragement and sportsmanship shown amazing to see. With some unbelievably close scores, we then announced the winners of both the Sports Day Shield and Spirit Cup.
Thank you to all of the families who joined us to cheer on our students on both days and congratulations to everyone for such collaborative participation and giving everything a go.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
