As today comes to a close, we reflect and commemorate the sacrifice of those who served before us, those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and those who currently serve, both on our shores and overseas, during peace and in war.

We honour every single serviceman and woman who volunteered or was conscripted to defend our freedoms and we seek to continue their legacy into the future.

We thank the friends and family who have continually stood by and supported our people.

Thank you to all those who came to the Parade in Darwin City to show support, and thank you to all who attended dawn services around the NT and the country this morning.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that retired LTCOL Mark Schafer passed away Monday morning at Wesley Hospital after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Mark was an IG, a BC of A Fd Bty, and the CO of 8/12 among many other achievements.

He was a charismatic person who was professional and intelligent, with a wonderful sense of humour and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his wife, Louise, and three children, Emma, Adele and Nicholas.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time and wish them all the best.

Last month 25 members of 8/12 set out to raise money for March On, supporting veterans mental health and su***de prevention.

These members raised $23,780, more than $15,000 over their original goal and 4th in the most funds raised in Australia by a group.

The Regiment also supported the RAAF to Robbo event as part of the March On challenge, with people walking, running and pack marching 15kms.

Well done to all that participated and thank you to all that donated.
