Great news! The Premier Mark McGowan and Minister for Education and Training Sue Ellery today announced that the State Government will reduce course fees to half price for target vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2021, under the new Lower fees, local skills program. Go to https://www.jobsandskills.wa.gov.au/lowerfees to find out more.

Lower fees, local skills means half price course fees on target VET qualifications in areas of high jobs growth for WA, and an annual cap on fees. Study, save, succeed!

The State Government has responded to recommendations of the State Training Board's Strategies to grow apprenticeships and traineeships report. From 1 July the State Government will offer financial assistance to Western Australian businesses who employ an apprentice or new entrant trainee and who have lodged the training contract for registration on or after 1 July 2019.

The State Government has released the WA State STEM strategy: Future jobs, future skills – Driving STEM skills in Western Australia.

The State Training Board was a member of the State STEM advisory panel and welcomes the release.

Future jobs, future skills – Driving STEM skills in Western Australia aims to build a globally competitive and innovative workforce with the skills to drive Western Australia’s technological future and create new job opportunities.
