1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment

1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment 1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment, is an Army Reserve Infantry Battalion.

We have depots in Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Wagga Wagga and Canberra. The 1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment (1/19 RNSWR), is an infantry battalion of the Australian Army. It is one of four battalions of the Royal New South Wales Regiment and is currently a Reserve unit attached to the 5th Brigade, 2nd Division.

1st/19th Battalion, New South Wales Regiment (1/19 RNSWR), was rai

sed in 1971 with the amalgamation of the 1st Battalion and the 19th Battalion. These two units were previously linked between 1930 and 1939, although they can trace their lineage back to 1854 with the formation of a number of Volunteer Rifles units as part of the New South Wales colonial defence force. Since formation, 1/19 RNSWR, as part of the 5th Brigade, has continued to cater for the training needs of Army Reserve personnel in regional areas of southern NSW. In 1996, 1/19 RNSWR was decentralised and moved from Ingleburn to five regional depots at Orange, Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, Dubbo and Canberra.

1/19 RNSWR is currently recruiting in all these locations.

Congratulations to LCPL Woodhead of B Coy, 1/19 RNSWR on attaining his Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New England!

Having already completed a Diploma of Nursing, LCPL Woodhead was able to complete his degree in 3 years whilst also providing effective service to the Battalion.

If you are looking to complete tertiary studies, the Army Reserve provides a flexible and meaningful part time employment opportunity that works with you to achieve your goals both in and outside of the Defence Force. There are numerous civilian employers and education institutions with leave schemes to facilitate Army Reserve members attending to their service in the community and to the nation whilst also completing studies or other employment.

LCPL Woodhead thanks the members of his Platoon, Bravo Company and the Battalion as the flexibility and support offered by all was critical in completing his degree in such a short time.

A Company, 1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment, participated in a local fun run on Saturday 18 April.

Three soldiers from A Company participated in the 5km event, with one soldier, Lance Bombardier Samuel Joyce, finishing third overall in the event with a time of 19 mins 29 secs.

Soldiers from A Company chatted with members of the public to share their enjoyment of the beautiful but chilly Sunday morning event. Several members of the public expressed an interest in joining the Army Reserve as a way of serving the nation.

The activity reflects the enduring connection between Army reservists and the local community.

A Company's reservists live and work throughout the Riverina and regard themselves as the region's own soldiers, with a military tradition stretching back more than a century to the Kangaroo Marches before World War I.

A Company, 1st/19th Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment, conducted a clean up of an historic M113 armoured display vehicle in Wagga Wagga on Saturday 18 April.

Ten soldiers from A Company were joined by a member of RSL LifeCare, a local veterans' organisation, to clean up the prominent display situated on the corner of Edward and Docker Streets.

The historic vehicle, an M113A "Scorpion" Carrier Fire Support variant, was originally presented to the people of Wagga Wagga in commemoration of the Australian Army's 90th birthday in 1991.

The activity reflects the enduring connection between Army reservists, veterans and the local community, and forms part of Army's 126th year of service to the nation.

This morning members of 1/19 RNSWR conducted their Run Army - Orange virtual event at Gosling Creek Reserve.

Run Army is an annual charity fun run that raises funds for Legacy. Legacy is a charity founded after WW1 in order to assist the families of soldiers killed or wounded in war, founded on the promise "to look after the missus and kids".

Participants undertake a 5km or 10km run/walk, with the main Run Army events taking place in Brisbane and Townsville.

The RSM took 1st place in the 5km, with the Adjutant overcoming some stiff competition to cross the line first in the 10km!

1/19 RNSWR is working towards opening the event to the public in future iterations.
