Volunteering Tasmania will be at the Bridgewater Library this Thursday!

This is a great chance to learn about volunteering opportunities, get guidance on applications, or simply have a chat about volunteering ☺️

Don't miss out on our free drop in session coming up at the Bridgewater Library!

Between 10:30am and 12:30pm On Thursday, 10 September, Volunteering Tasmania and Hobart City Mission's Tech Yeah are hosting another free drop in session to help get you connected to volunteering opportunities that are right for you.

If you are looking to volunteer but don't know where to start, this is your chance! We will be there to answer your questions, find out what kind of volunteering is right for you and help you through any of the processes to get your volunteering journey started.

📣Don't forget! You can safely dispose of your household and garden chemicals for free on Sunday 13 September at the Brighton Civic Centre in Bridgewater.

✅ Accepted items include household cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, old fuel, acids, poisons and even vapes. Bring the chemicals in their original containers, if possible, with lids sealed tightly or double-bagged for travelling.

❌ Items that will not be accepted include motor oil, asbestos, pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, ammunition and explosives, bulk agriculture products, and chemicals from commercial businesses.

September is Biodiversity Month 🌳🦋🐋

Short for "biological diversity", biodiversity is the variety of all living organisms on Earth, from microscopic viruses and bacteria, fungi and plants, to insects, fish, birds and mammals, including us humans! It also includes the bigger ecosystems we all live in, and the many interactions that happen within these ecosystems.

Biodiversity supports the air we breathe, the food we eat, clean water, healthy soils, and the natural systems that sustain our communities every day.

Biodiversity Month is about connecting with and caring for nature in all of its diversity, so here are some ways you can get involved:

🐞 Learn about local wildlife
🚶‍♂️ Spend time in nature
🌱 Take small actions to protect and restore habitats

And keep your eyes out for a Southern Tassie bioblitz challenge happening later in the month!

***Brighton Council Youth Activities Update***
Brighton Council has temporarily paused all Council youth activities and events while Council reviews how these activities are governed and managed. This pause includes Youth Night Cafe held each Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5pm at the Civic Centre in Bridgewater. This review will help ensure our activities remain safe, supportive and welcoming for all young people, families and community members involved. Activities will remain on hold while the review is underway. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this process. 🙏

Reminder: Voting in the 2026 Tasmanian local government elections is compulsory. It’s your opportunity to have your say about who represents you around the table.

Ballot packs will be mailed to all eligible voters in early October. Voting is conducted by post, and you must return your completed ballot by the deadline listed in your pack.

You have until 6:00pm on 10 September to enrol and ensure your information is up to date.
