🌱✨ Young people creating change in Brighton! ✨🌱
Thanks to funding from the Tasmanian Community Fund, the Community Creators Program is continuing to inspire students across the Brighton Municipality to turn ideas into action and discover the power of working together to strengthen their community, under the guidance of Brighton Council's Community Creator's Coordinator Curtis Knox.

💚 At St Paul's Catholic School, students are bringing an unused space to life through Project G.A.R.D.E.N. (Growing Assets, Relationships, Development, Education & Nature), transforming it into a vibrant community garden.

🤝 Through Project S.H.E.L.T.E.R. (Students Helping Empower Lives through Essential Relief) students at East Derwent Primary School JRLF are supporting people experiencing hardship by creating care packs and sharing messages of encouragement.

Community Creators is about more than projects—it's about belonging, participation and empowering young people to lead with kindness, creativity and purpose. Every idea, every conversation and every small action is helping build a stronger, more connected Brighton.

This is just the beginning, and we can't wait to share more of these inspiring stories as our young leaders continue to create, lead and make a difference in the places they live, learn and play.

Outcomes from the Council meeting held on Tuesday 16 June 2026:

🔹 Council adopted a new Community Flag Management Policy for the Brighton Civic Centre.

🔹 Council approved two kennel licence applications in Brighton and Pontville.

🔹 Council refused a kennel licence application in Brighton.

🔹 Council endorsed the Pontville Park Master Plan.

🔹 Council adopted the requests for Memorial Recognition Policy.

🔹 Council adopted the revised Election Caretaker Period Policy.

🔹 Council adopted the 2026/2027 budget and 2026/2027 Rating Resolution.

🔹Council adopted the 2026/2027 Annual Plan.

Last night's Stonedust Pottery session at 'Night Cafe' was a beautiful reminder of what community is all about. There was creativity, plenty of laughs, and a real sense of togetherness as young people gathered around the table to make, chat and connect. Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it such a fun and creative evening. We can't wait to see how everyone's creations turn out!🏺✨ Get along to next week's 'Night Cafe' for some boot scootin' line dancing. 👫

Sports clubs, this one is for you! ⚽️🏉

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water have a grant opportunity to support the upgrade of sporting facilities to be more climate resilient and energy efficient ☀️

Round 1 of the Game On: Teaming Up for Climate Action program grants will now open on 1 July 2026. 📅

Up to 500 clubs are expected to receive funding to:
• install solar PV systems and batteries
• carry out energy audits
• upgrade lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
• install disaster ready infrastructure to protect facilities during extreme weather.

The draft Grant Opportunity Guidelines have been updated and are now available on GrantConnect to help you prepare.
