AFAC has just dropped the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring, and it’s pointing to an earlier start to the season this year. Parts of eastern and western Victoria are already feeling the pinch from drought, which means a higher bushfire risk as we head into spring and summer.

Under these conditions, we could see multiple large fires as early as October in parts of the state — so now’s the perfect time to get your plan and property sorted.

A few quick wins:
📋 Update your fire plan
🌱 Keep long grass mowed
🏡 Clear out those gutters

Being prepared genuinely makes a difference. For more practical tips on getting ready for the season, head to CFA’s property prep guide.

Last night our brigade headed to Leopold Fire Brigade for some live fire training on a CFA Fire Prop - a fun opportunity for our crew to get some valuable hands-on training.

A huge thank you to Leopold Fire Brigade for having us…and for allowing us to drown your back lawn in the process. Can confirm it’s now the best-watered patch of grass on the Bellarine! 🚒🔥💦

This NAIDOC Week, we're celebrating 50 Years Deadly, honouring the Elders, activists and communities who built the NAIDOC movement over five decades.

Across CFA, that means taking time to connect, listen and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in our own communities.

Last Thursday night, a new fantastic team of recruits, assisted by the previous now qualified group of recruits, began their GFF practical training on station. First lesson - how to bowl and roll a hose, and they were awesome. Onwards and upwards.

1 June is the the first day of winter and Smoke Alarm Action Day.
Use it as your reminder to test your smoke alarms and make sure they’re working properly.

It only takes a minute, and it could save your life. A working smoke alarm can halve the risk of death in a house fire and is one of the simplest ways to protect your home and family.
