Oakbank School

Oakbank School This page is managed by Oakbank School, a South Australian Government Department for Education school

Situated in an attractive location between the small towns of Balhannah and Oakbank, we are the only Reception to Year 12 state school in the Adelaide Hills. Our school provides a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that allows individuals to discover and develop new skills, new ideas and competencies for tertiary studies or employment. Our motto, 'Learn, Achieve, Succeed' is reflected both i

n our curriculum and in our teaching. Learn - We cultivate within our students a genuine love of learning. We challenge students to think critically, empower them to develop their talents, and inspire them to engage fully with the world around them. We foster students' curiosity through inquiry-based learning techniques, building their confidence and creativity as they discover their skills and experience success within a caring school community. Achieve - Our holistic approach to education focuses on student wellbeing and empowerment. We aim to make explicit the connection between students taking responsibility for their learning and engagement, and their ultimate achievement. By fostering within our students an authentic desire to learn, we empower them to recognise the control they have over their ability to achieve success. Succeed - Our students find success through recognition of their own skills and abilities. We provide for them a broad range of richly engaging opportunities designed to develop their intellectual, social, emotional and physical capabilities. We instil within our students a strong sense of community and empower them to become well-rounded citizens, able to actively participate in and lead the local, national and global communities in which they live.

Regulation Strategies Across Oakbank

Our Year 5/6 students recently created posters showcasing some of these strategies, helping to raise awareness and encourage their use throughout the school. From breathing exercises and mindfulness to movement and positive self-talk, these tools support students to regulate their emotions, stay focused and be ready to learn.

We're proud to see our students taking an active role in promoting wellbeing across our school community.

9-A-Side Football at West Beach

Our students headed to West Beach to compete in the 9-A-Side Football Carnival, with teams representing Oakbank School in the Year 7–8 Boys, Year 7–9 Girls and Year 9–10 Boys divisions.

Despite the chilly conditions, students showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see everyone supporting one another, developing their skills and enjoying the opportunity to compete against other schools.

A big congratulations to all students involved for the way they represented Oakbank School both on and off the field. We are proud of your effort, resilience and positive attitude throughout the day.

🌱🐄 Farm Friday 🐄🌱

Our primary students have been very excited about the newest moo-additions to the farm!

We are incredibly grateful to the Kowald family for generously loaning two dairy calves to our school, as well as donating the milk powder to help care for them. Their support provides our students with valuable hands-on learning opportunities and a chance to connect with agriculture in a meaningful way.

This week, students had the opportunity to meet the calves and learn about the importance of farm hygiene, including how to safely and responsibly work around animals and why washing hands before and after handling livestock is so important.

Don’t forget to let us know if you’re interested in purchasing any of our fresh vegetables or lemon trees, which are currently available for sale! 🍋🥬

♻️ Ready. Set. Recycle. ♻️

Our 10¢ recycling challenge is officially underway!

Students can now earn house points by recycling eligible drink containers in their team’s bin. We’ve upcycled and painted recycling bins in house colours, with stations located across both the Primary and Secondary campuses.

A huge thank you to Dan, Paul and our Year 9 Agriculture students for helping bring this project to life.

Saving containers from landfill. Earning house points. Building house pride.

Who will recycle their way to the top of the leaderboard? 🏆♻️

🥒🌱 Team Zucchini Takes on Hort Connections! 🌱🥒

Our Team Zucchini students recently headed to Hort Connections at the Adelaide Convention Centre, where they explored the latest innovations in horticulture and connected with growers, researchers and industry leaders from across Australia.

A special shout-out to Delilan and Aven, who were interviewed by ABC Country Hour during the event. Keep an ear out for their upcoming feature! 🎙️

A huge thank you veggie much to Mark and Jodie from VEG Education for organising the day, AUSVEG for funding our passes, and Sue Pratt from AgCommunicators for her continued support of agricultural education.

After a day full of innovation, inspiration and plenty of ag-sthetic displays (as the students described them!), Team Zucchini left with full notebooks, full stomachs and fresh ideas for the future.

🌱 Farm Friday 🐑🐄🐔

Only 91 days until show time!

It’s been another busy week on the farm at Oakbank School. Our Year 9 students have been harvesting broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, kale and bok choy as part of their Productivity Assignment, while show preparations are ramping up with the steers receiving their first bath of the season and the show sheep being haltered for the first time.

Our Year 8 students have been caring for their show chickens, we’ve been working through our Cows Create Careers curriculum and competition entries, and students have planted onions, garlic and spring bulbs for future bloom buckets.

🥬 We still have kale, bok choy and lemon trees available for sale.

With the end of the financial year approaching, we’re also seeking sponsors for this year’s show team. For more information, give the school a call or email [email protected].
