Oakbank School

Oakbank School This page is managed by Oakbank School, a South Australian Government Department for Education school

Situated in an attractive location between the small towns of Balhannah and Oakbank, we are the only Reception to Year 12 state school in the Adelaide Hills. Our school provides a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that allows individuals to discover and develop new skills, new ideas and competencies for tertiary studies or employment. Our motto, 'Learn, Achieve, Succeed' is reflected both in our curriculum and in our teaching. Learn - We cultivate within our students a genuine love of learning. We challenge students to think critically, empower them to develop their talents, and inspire them to engage fully with the world around them. We foster students' curiosity through inquiry-based learning techniques, building their confidence and creativity as they discover their skills and experience success within a caring school community. Achieve - Our holistic approach to education focuses on student wellbeing and empowerment. We aim to make explicit the connection between students taking responsibility for their learning and engagement, and their ultimate achievement. By fostering within our students an authentic desire to learn, we empower them to recognise the control they have over their ability to achieve success. Succeed - Our students find success through recognition of their own skills and abilities. We provide for them a broad range of richly engaging opportunities designed to develop their intellectual, social, emotional and physical capabilities. We instil within our students a strong sense of community and empower them to become well-rounded citizens, able to actively participate in and lead the local, national and global communities in which they live.

R U OK?

R U OK? is a national charity reminding us that a simple conversation can make a real difference.

At Oakbank School, we’re encouraged to look out for one another, stay connected and take the time to check in with the people around us. Sometimes, simply asking “R U OK?” can open the door to a conversation and let someone know they’re not alone.

Ask. Listen. Connect.
You never know how much a genuine check-in might mean.

Exploring Future Pathways with Flinders University

Our students recently took part in Flinders University’s River Journey program, exploring their interests, strengths and future education and career pathways.

Through engaging activities and conversations, students were encouraged to think about where their journey might take them and the different pathways available to reach their goals. The program is designed to help students see higher education as an achievable option and build confidence in planning for their future.

A fantastic opportunity for our students to dream big, explore possibilities and start mapping out their own journey beyond school!

🐂 Royal Adelaide Show Steer Results 🐂

A fantastic finish for our steer team!

🏅 Bottlesford Murray Greys Willis and Spence’s Show Steers Walter competed in the Purebred Heavy Domestic 490.1–522kg class. Willis placed 4th, while Walter took out 1st place and went on to finish in the top four of the Championship class!

🐂 Ewyn Speckle Park Winnie competed in a very tough Purebred Export 580.1–596kg class and represented us proudly.

A huge well done to our handlers Taylor with Willis, Katie with Walter and Isla with Winnie. You represented Oakbank brilliantly! 👏

Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters for steering us in the right direction this year, and to our students and staff for the huge effort behind the scenes. 💚

More results still to come, and next up… 🐑 our sheep head to the Show on Tuesday!

And with next year being the letter X… what names will we come up with next?! 🤔🐂

🐮 SHOW DAY SATURDAY! 🐮

An early start with Walter, Winnie and Willis washed, blow-dried and ready for the public!

Winnie kicked off TFI judging at 10am before our team proudly represented Oakbank School in the Grand Parade. Willis then rounded out the afternoon with his TFI judging.

Our students did an amazing job caring for the steers, keeping pens tidy and chatting with the public about their hard work. So proud of this team! 💚

🐮 A BIG DAY FOR THE OAKBANK STEER TEAM! 🐮

Before 7am our team was already washing, blow-drying and getting the steers show-ready at the Royal Adelaide Show!

First up was weigh-in:
🐂 Walter – 506kg
🐂 Winnie – 590kg
🐂 Willis – 520kg

Our steers averaged an impressive 1.5kg weight gain per day while at school – a great result from months of care and hard work!

Then it was time for the South Australian Young Beef Breeders Handler Competition. German exchange student Lukas had a crack in the Novice section, Isla placed 4th in her Intermediate heat with Winnie, and Taylor gave it a red-hot crack with Willis in the Experienced Handlers. 👏

Tonight Walter stepped into a huge line-up of Limousins for the Thomas Foods International judging and looked fantastic amongst some very strong competition. 🐂

We’re incredibly proud of how our students represented Oakbank today!

Tomorrow: more judging, the Grand Parade and the Show officially opens to the public! 🎡

Heading in? Come say hi! 👋
