This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity, resilience and contributions of LGBTQIA+ people in our communities.

Celebrating every voice, every identity, and everyone proud to be who they are. 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is an opportunity to recognise how far we've come, while also acknowledging the work that remains to ensure everyone can live, work and participate free from discrimination and exclusion.

Creating inclusive communities requires ongoing learning, meaningful action and a commitment to ensuring all people feel respected, valued and able to be their authentic selves.

As part of Pride Month, we're encouraging community sector professionals to continue building their knowledge and confidence through our upcoming Foundations of LGBTQIA+ Inclusion workshop, delivered online by Minus18. The session provides practical tools and insights to help create more inclusive workplaces, services and communities.

CI Group was delighted to host a visit from our wonderful friends at The Femme Shed. The Femme Shed is a group of clever and dedicated women who come together to create beautiful handicrafts which they sell at very reasonable prices to raise money for local charities.

The CI Group team stocked up a range of goodies including crocheted blankets, warm gloves and socks, handy tea towels and pot holders, and of course baby goods.

And yet across the NSW South Coast, many organisations are facing increasing challenges attracting, retaining, and supporting volunteers in a rapidly changing environment.

Volunteer managers, coordinators and community leaders are being asked to do more than ever:

How do we respond to the growing aged care bed shortage in our region when we can’t simply build our way out of the problem?

Join us for an important workshop bringing together retirement living, aged care and health sector professionals from across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven to explore practical, local solutions.

With the region currently sitting more than 1,000 beds short, this workshop will focus on alternative models of care and the potential to better utilise existing retirement living stock to support older people in our communities.

Hear from leading experts Professor Kathy Eagar AM and Paul Sadler as they present key research findings, before participating in a facilitated discussion led by Mark Sewell focused on collaboration, innovation and next steps for the sector.

At Community Industry Group, we acknowledge the enduring strength, knowledge and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise the vital role reconciliation plays in building stronger communities for future generations.

🎬 Join us for a powerful community event featuring a screening of Piano Forte.

Through a deeply human and relatable story, the film shines a light on how financial abuse can occur subtly within families, while reinforcing the importance of dignity, independence, and older people maintaining control over their own decisions.

Following the screening, hear from an expert panel featuring representatives from Legal Aid, Seniors Rights and the Ageing and Disability Commission, with opportunities for audience Q&A and discussion.

We are also pleased to welcome NSW Ageing and Disability Commissioner Jeff Smith to the event.

Attendees are invited to stay afterwards for a light lunch, information stalls, and the opportunity to connect with local organisations and support services.

This free event aims to spark important conversations, raise awareness, and help build safer, more informed and connected communities for older people.
